Do you wanna be in my gang?

‘Gangs of New York’ is Martin Scorcese’s new film and U2 are reported to be working on its soundtrack. The film, starring Leonardo di Caprio and Daniel Day-Lewis, has an official website (“site coming soon”) and you can watch a preview on Apple’s trailer site.

A lot of press reports claim that the band is working ‘in Dublin, in a building that once housed a nightclub’ but we believe this could be wrong.

Win. WIN. WIN!

Michael Greene, president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which organizes the Grammys claims U2 had about three tunes among the final 10 contenders for song of the year. He declined to identify the other two. Greene, obviously a fan, enthused: “Brilliance is something that is hard to keep down. 8 Grammy Nominations

The nominations for the Grammy Awards have been announced and U2 is up for 8:

  • Record of the Year – Walk On
  • Album of the Year – All That You Can’t Leave Behind
  • Song of the Year – Stuck In a Moment
  • Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal – Stuck In a Moment
  • Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal – Elevation
  • Best Rock Song – Elevation, Walk On
  • Best Rock Album – All That You Can’t Leave Behind

The Moulin Rouge soundtrack, which contains the Bono/Friday/Seezer cover of ‘Children of the Revolution’ was nominated in the Best Soundtrack category.

The Award Ceremony will be held on February 27, 2002, at the Staples Center
in Los Angeles. Talking to Reuters Manager Paul McGuinness confirmed the band would be playing at the show, and that they are considering playing Europe next summer.

He won’t be quiet…

on New Year’s Day. CNN interviews Bono on lending his bono vox to the Drop the Debt campaign: I’d much rather be in a rehearsal room or studio making rock ‘n’ roll than dressing up in a suit and tie and representing the World Health Organization. I think I’m better at it, I think I’m better suited to it. But you know what — they asked me here and I’m proud of the work I’ve done over the last few years on the debt campaign. And if they need a voice, they’ve got mine. Except for that higher register, then?
