At the Hot Press Irish Music Awards tonight, talking to the crowd while receiving an award for ‘Best Live Performance by an Irish artist’, The Edge announced a DVD of their Slane Castle concert will be out before Christmas.
Please confirm Paul! Please!!!
COOL! Hopefully it will be available over here in the states! (Region 1 DVD) 😉
And the craic was gewd.
Maybe Edge meant the Best Of DVD which is planned….i can
I sure hope they release it. I don’t mind if they release 2 from the same tour. I just hope it will be released in the States!! This sounds great!
I hope its the Slane show. A “Best Of” would be cool too, but I’d much rather have the concert.
reasons why releasing the slane show would kick major ass, only outdoor show, and one (PLEASE HAVE ONE ON THIS ONE!) with the bobby hewson on the screen, i was at the august 21st show where bono announced it to everyone so that would be an amazing concert to see, the slane show i mean, also what would be cool is if it had clips of the supporting bands, and i can’t wait for the U2 complete collection if they release it
It looks like the second show was recorded. Also there might be clips of other artists as I saw broadcast cameras recording Moby on that day. Just to let you know Robbie Williams was recorded at slane 2 years ago but it was never released – Only shown on TV in Ireland and England numerous times!
THAT’s RATHER BRILLIANT NEWS.
From Willies diary re: Slane 2… “we were filming the show tonight with Hamish Hamilton directing again, as he did in Boston. I was in the video truck for the show, rather than at the mix position, as this allows me to see all 16 camera shots at the same time and adjust the lighting as needed.”
Wooohooo, i was hoping they’d release Slane. Was at the first gig myself, still brings a smile to my face just thinking about it!
If it’s the Slane show….then WHOO HOO!!!
Really hope they release it. it’ll be amazing. hope its the slane show. who cares if its two shows from the same tour. it’ll kick ass. should be top
OH MY GOD.
i am so excited. yeah, it was the second show that was taped. they both kicked ass. out of control slane 2 was the first time i heard it live. one of the highlights of that night.
to me, the coolest thing is that i was on the bar outside the heart and on the screens, so its a possibility ill be in the video. 🙂
this is not the first ive heard of it being released.. last i heard it was in post production. it MUST be true!! or ill be back in ireland knocking on someones door.. someone who can make it true!
IMHO this is another misinterpretation. A DVD will be released, but NOT Slane! –> 2nd Best-Of
Oo…I’ve pretty much exhausted Elevation 2001, so this’d be nice…
…but I won’t get my hopes up yet. Rumors are the bane of all things cuddly.
the awards are on bbc northern ireland tonight at 10.35. look out for the frames – ireland’s best band besides u2!
Actually, I never thought I’d say this but I kind of don’t want them to release another Elevation show. If they put out the 2nd show then the song list will be almost identical, except for the inclusion of Mysterious Ways, One, Discotheque and a couple of others. I know I keep saying this but I’d really like a double DVD of U2 live stuff – possibly some of the rarer material, spanning from the really early club dates to the present day. Have them playing “Mofo” in front of 80,000 people on popmart, then seque into “Electric Co” in front of 200 people in 1981, then something from the Lovetown tour – unreleased footage containing songs that stray away from the usual With Or Without You / Pride / Sunday Bloody Sunday formula. ANYBODY ELSE THINK THAT’S A FANTASTIC IDEA?
why not release both??! ;-)) but let
I’m pretty sure Edge was joking when he said this. They will want to concentrate on the 2nd Best Of comilation for Xmas. The only way I can see it happening would be a free Propaganda release like Hasta La Vista Baby. Even then I think it’s unlikely.
I agree Ben, there is so much killer rare stuff out there, it’s a shame hardly anyone gets to see it!!! But, having said that, I would love anything they put out, so, whatever they do, I’m into it…
no matter what, anyone has the song list of slane concert? hope it be full list this time, unlike ‘boston’ with 3 songs out.
i also hope there will be a 2nd best of, as well as the 1st, both in dvd, plsssssssss!
Does anyone know the setlist?
Elevation, Beautiful Day, Until The End Of The World, New Year’s Day, Out Of Control, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Wake Up Dead Man, Stuck In A Moment, Kite, Angel Of Harlem (full band), Desire, Staring At The Sun, All I Want is You, Where The Streets Have No Name, Mysterious Ways, Pride (In The Name Of Love), Bullet The Blue Sky, With Or Without You, One, Walk On
??? is this a pic from the dvd?
To all the naysayers…this was posted way back in March prior to the Edge’s announcement at Hotpress.
A Slane DVD would certainly kick ass!
Two words for them though:
(was gonna put the f-word in there too but I think I’ve made my point)
i haven’t bought the Boston DVD (and won’t, have heard it wasn’t the best show and I saw them twice) but if they released Slane I would PREORDER it in a heartbeat. my bet is they will release the new “Best of” and the Slane DVD probably end of this year but we will have to wait til next year for the new (material) album.
I was both slane concerts last year and I really cant tell which was the best. Chilies were pure class but Moby was awesome also.. Any way on U2.com “Willies diary” he say’s that the second concert was recorded for realese???
The DVD is comming out i got an e-mail from Ned O’Halon saying it is due for release late 2002 and that there is now work on Popmart as of Yet the best of dvd is due november 4th an so is the best of CD so all of us u2 fans are going to be smiling till 2003 when we get more—- irish man in crete on hols see yee when i get back……
Saw the slane show last night on tv. Nothing else to be said but amazing it should be out on dvd before xmas!!
Wow! I really hope the release the concert at Slane Castle. I’ve seen a bootleg version of the concert, but it only has 9 songs on it. I would really like to see the full concet.
U2 ROCKS & the are the best band in the world! I met Bono in Montreal, Canada in 2001. He was the nicest person. Thanks Bono for making the bigest U2 fan’s dream come true!
