Confused by the Electrical Storm?

u2wanderer.org has all the details on the various mixes that are floating around the ‘net. Of the five rumoured to be around, 3 are accounted for thus far: Demo/BBC Version, Single/Radio Edit Version & the William Orbit Mix/Album Version.

Anyone care to make up a flow chart so we can keep track of everything?

  1. As I started to mention in the other big topic… I’ve heard two *more* versions on the radio (K-ROCK in NYC) that are different than the three that have been accounted for, neither of these two have MP3s floating around for them. One is a softer acoustic/synth version and the other is a semi-soft kinda trippy electric/synth version. Oy! 🙂

  3. I just listened to the “US” version, and its not good… The BBC versio is much more enjoyable! Let the boys mix it again!! 😉

  5. Jaysus, I ‘spose there’s going to be another album released now. 12 versions of the one song….

  9. The third version, the album version… It’s nothing but a mono version of the single version. If you play the single version panned to the right … then it sounds exactly the same.
I thought you all should know 🙂

So no weird album version, because it’s the same as the single.

  11. i second that. last night i played around with the stereo effects, and concluded that the bbc version they played on my radio station just sounded different because of the way my computer speakers sound. but it WAS THE SAME version as the BBC demo.

  13. Well, to prevent mistakes from being made: ppl say there are 3 versions. 1: bbc demo 2: single 3: album. Now, 2 and 3 are one and the same song/mix, only 3 is mono/right panned. But 1 is really different from the rest. It has accoustic guitar and a different solo and different riffs in the chorus.

  15. i think i prefer the bbc version with the intro and end from the single … the single version feels empty and lacks the extra emotion from the Edge’s groovy riffs …

  17. I actually like the single version better; it sounds more full & finished. There are some more guitar sounds & sounds more, well, ‘electric’.

  19. I’m thinking that the album version is just a stereo mix up. I should have known to check for that (remembering KROQ) so the question is where is the real william orbit mix? It should be fairly accessible.

  21. Yeah, the single version is definitely the same as the album version, but one interesting difference between the demo and single is in the demo the line is “hope the rain will wash away our bad luck” while the single is “need the rain…” My favorite line in the song so i noticed that. Love the song (both versions)

  23. I know I’m gonna get bashed for saying this, but I’ve listened to all three…and like the “The Ground Beneath Her Feet,” this one just doesn’t do it for me.

Edge’s guitar is hot, and Bono’s singing is as good as it’s ever been, but the melody and lyrics are flat and uninspired. There’s just nothing for me to wrap my heart around in this song.

Overall, “Electrical Storm” sounds like a throwaway from the ATYCLB sessions, which, essentially, it is.

It’s not a grower, either. “Kite” was a grower. “Acrobat” was a grower. This is just another “Big Girls Are Best.”

Just an opinion, so settle down.

  25. I’m thinking that part of the baseline sounds like “Dirty Day”, but reversed (the baseline notes in “Electrical Storm” build up instead of down). The structure of the two songs also seems similar: a little soft story-telling, followed by a railing chorus.

  27. Not to be a complete retard here, but how can you tell the different mixes apart? I’ve got two different remixes and wouldn’t have a clue which is which. 😮

  29. That page sorts it out pretty well…the fifth mix I heard still is unaccounted for there though…that would be the soft acoustic/synth mix (I think – the trippy one I heard sounds like the real Orbit one described on that page). Still a mystery… 🙂

  31. I feel 10 years old, the first band I truly loved just played on MTV, that’s right kiddies, Guns N’ MOTHERFU*&%NG Roses (yes, I was 10)!!! How does this apply to U2, you ask??? Be thankful for Bono’s voice, fellow U2 deciples, Axl’s sounds about 14 years and 18 billion ciggarttes more damaged!!! Anyway, still loving Electric Storm, and does anyone know where the video is and when it is coming out???

  33. I was right there with you Ryan (only a couple years older) but I had no idea they were going to play. But yeah, Axl sounded like he’d been sucking on a tailpipe for the last 5 years. Still was cool to see them again. (u2 connection – uh, Axl loved ‘One’ right?)

  37. yea no joke about the eminem thing, first it was hilarious with the entire christina thing, and the moby thing got him some boos, oh well, loved the g&r thing, was only 5 when appetite came out, but i still loved what came after, but axl did sound pretty bad, i’d still see them live though, even if slash is banned from all the shows, i was personally hoping was a u2 thing, like them singing electrical storm? well it would have been a big suprise for u2 fans…

  41. Totally OT: Anyone else suspect that Eminem has a mean case of ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)???

That could explain the constant need to do and say outlandish things in order to gain everyone’s attention.

    What a wanker.

You know why he’s doing this, though? Cos he knows that he doesn’t have a very long shelf life left, and he needs to do this shit in order to stir up some more “controversy” and thus make all the 12 year olds think he’s hardcore badass and sell more records before he finally and inevitably burns out in grand style.

And yeah, U2 would have been waaaaaaaay cooler than G’nR. 😀

  45. The album version (d/l from wanderer) sounds “cleaner” than the single version because it has more picking instead of strumming.

  47. Did any one else thought that the riff about the end of the song (about 45 secs. before it’s over), is very similar to the one from George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord. It certainly sounds derivative to me, it may be a homage, would like to know what Edge thinks.

  49. First of all, you have to respect Eminem as an artist. Making music is what he does. He’s not here to make people mad. Its the people that get hyped up over it. Em’s prolly home laughing, saying “suckers!” But, I feel the same way Em does. Music is, can, and should be a passion for everyone. Doesn’t matter what form it comes in.
