  1. I hope that all this pre-planning and preperation means that we are going to get a massive U2 state of the art/bleeding edge/mind blowing/never seen before extravaganza hitting the road next year. And a travelling circus (like zootv) of course needs to run on the back of a sensational record.

Fingers crossed..as long as I get ‘the shivers’ I’ll be happy.

  3. I’ve talked to an assistant of U2 through the Net and she told me that the first U2 single may be called “maybe”. I’m not sure if this is true.

  5. don’t know about you guys, but i think it’s taking way too long for the band to put out new material. no way should it be delayed till february. just kind of tired of hearing news about the new album and each time finding out they are pushing back the date. u2 are still the best band in the land. also, i believe bono should keep one job and stick to it, his job – singer/songwriter – he is the best at that. it’s cool if he likes all the politics, but save it for when u2 is no more. bono, please stop putting the band second and jeopardizing the band with delays and mixed feelings about your ideas. maybe sounds like i’m attacking them, but thats no way true. I LOVE U2. and truly “one of their biggest fans”. sorry to ramble, later… http://www.angelfire.com/ca3/allu2

  7. I totally agree Nick. U2’s existance is dependent on each members full commitment. I’m actually curious just how much Bono has really put into this album. I admire Bono and think he’s the man, but I’m really tired of all this bullshit and the fans are ready to rock. I just hope U2 are…

  9. An artist’s well dries out if he/she doesn’t continually experience life.
I belive we will reap the rewards of Bono’s escapades through his music.
I am so wanting to pop a new U2 cd in the player, but for whatever reason, it’s not there yet. Wouldn’t want a
    half-baked album from u2, ever!
    So we wait….

  11. They made the choice not to do the whole Christmas promo slog for this album. Hence a February single and a possible Spring release for the album.

  13. to those saying that “maybe” is a terrible name, since when does the name mean anything? bono has even said that he never liked the name u2, hell they only chose the name from a list of 10 names that steve averill gave them, and they just wanted to test it like feedback and hype, but they won the limerick contest with it, then there are song titles, think about past song titles, and just think about them as words on their own, not even the song, exit, one (how many bands have that as a song title?!?), with or without you, sunday bloody sunday, new year’s day, any of them, basically what i’m saying is don’t judge a book by its cover! and remember, even the beatles is a crap name!

  15. i don’t understand everyone’s gripe about bono doing this and doing that and not doing an album. i’d rather them take their time, do whatever they want to do, and not come out with another ATYCLB. my .02, return for refund where applicable.

  17. I thought Bono said the album would be out for Christmas? Oh well. All we can do is hope some radio DJ they know gets married so he can give a song to them as a gift and then play it on the air 6 months early…

  19. ‘all that we couldn’t get stuffed onto the last album’? ‘all that we had time for whenever bono was around long enough to do some singing’?

  21. 2004?? I was all excited about a summer 2003 release way back. Honestly, 3+ years inbetween albums is a bit much, don’t you think? I thought they were in the studio recording last year. What is taking so long? They had such momentum built up after the Elevation Tour; I think they could have really grown their fan base even more with a new album release while the hype was big. Now there’s been a lull.

  23. …Well they toured for quite some time, it should be no surprise that it’s taking them this long to release it. Besides, instead of rushing a new studio album, they opted to instead release another Best Of. This is why the album is getting pushed back too; the public needs a little breathing room between releases it’ll seem like U2 overload. The band know this…

  25. I completely disagree with taking advantage of the momentum with All That You Can’t Leave Behind. U2 isn’t a band that releases two albums that sound the same, thus the need for the 3+ years to work on another album. And I completely agree with dan regarding the timing of the best of release…it bought u2 a bunch of time to work on a new sound…and with a new producer, this album is gonna kick ass. so to everything bi*$@’n…shut up, stop your crying, be patient, and wait to be blown away! that’s all i got to say about that.

  27. Val nailed it completely, but let’s wax nostalgic for a second. Remember the dark days before the Internet, and when U2 were only interesting copy to the music papers? Bono and Ali went to Ethiopia to work for a month, they went to Central America, who knew? Who said, for cryin’ out loud, leave it to the relief workers and Amnesty and get your butt back into the studio? Now we know all the details every time they sneeze, hear every lunatic rumor, and we speculate on all of it. Everyone should just relax and let them do what they do so well — it’s worked for all of us for almost 25 years now. And vonb, my guess at the title of the new album is, OK, It’s Finished, Now Get Off Our Friggin’ Backs!

  31. the annoying thing about being a modern-day U2 fan is the ridiculous wait between albums. Zooropa came out in 1993, and we had to wait 4 year for pop. then, we had to wait another 3-and-a-half years for all that you can’t…, and now we’ll have to wait another 3-and-a-half-years for the next one. *sigh*

  33. remember what the band was saying about 3 years ago? bono and edge kept talking about wanting to ‘strike while the iron was hot,’ and how they were going to harness the energy of the elevation tour and make another record quickly. what a load of bollocks! i love U2 like mad, but they are the worst procrastinators i’ve ever seen.

  35. Everyone knows that The Edge is responsible for this new album…even Bono admits it. There’s nothing wrong with that, but its hard laborious work doing everything yourself. The Edge has a studio suntan…everyone else is sunburnt from circumnavigating the globe. I bet the album will be called Solar. Hawkings influenced.

  37. Also, one more thought. Perfectionism is the enemy of U2, lol. Not a bad thing. That may very well be why they take their time. Joshua Tree 87…Achtung Baby 91. It’s worth the wait. We must have faith in our brethern U2…….

  43. How did you hear them? Did you press your ear up against the door of the studio? (Has anyone thought of trying that? 😉 )

  47. I hear in U2log few months ago that the new album may be called “The Ordinary Land”. I think it’s an amazing title and it makes sense… just look at the world.

  49. call me a skeptic, but I’m not inclined to believe a post by someone who claims to be in the know and then signs his or her handle, even after making a previous post where it’s obvious that signing your handle isn’t necessary. that said, I believe you’re right, happyb, that it will be worth the wait! I’ve spent all my time and money seeing bruce springsteen this year so I’m pleased as punch that U2 is waiting til spring. for me, the timing is perfect. 🙂
