Bono Performs in Boston and Makes Tour Announcement

Last night Bono performed “Pride (In the Name of Love)” with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at an event honoring Senator Ted Kennedy at Boston’s Symphony Hall. Reworking the lyrics to acknowledge Kennedy’s brothers, John and Bobby, Bono dedicated the song to the Massachusetts senator and his sisters, Eunice and Jean. Bono also performed “The Hands That Built America” with Yo-Yo Ma.

While on stage, Bono delighted the audience by announcing that U2 will kick off the band’s next U.S. tour in Boston in March 2005 — news to which we respond with a “Huh?!” (Reuters photo)

  1. I really hope that the paper misinterpreted what Bono said about the U.S. tour. Boston in March?! Where does one put several thousand golashes and parkas in a venue?

It’s much more likely that Bono said U2 will return to Boston when their tour kicks off in March 2005.

  3. I still think the band will start in Miami. Let the rumors fly though.

    I want the new album.

  5. Interesting that he so pointedly announced they were still going for March 2005 tour launch and the album in November…??? Have they perhaps – or the wonderful and astute French PD — found the missing CD?

  7. I’m sure they’re still planning on November as long as the album doesn’t show up online in the near future.

And why would they want to start the tour in Boston? What’s so great about that place, anyway?

  9. Boston might make sense from a logistical point of view. Might be they can have a warm up show where no one who really matters will be [just joking Bostonites] They’ve done this touring thing for 20 years now, so I guess they know what they are doing.

On another [off topic] note, everyones got these camera phones now – shots of the concert would be great. I have some code that will produce a http://www.mobog.com style site from images from MMS & emailed images – would be more than happy to share it, or work with anyone for such a site – its all php.

  11. I was there yesterday, i came all the way from greece to boston to visit my brother, and thanx to u2log i found out about bono being in town, so i went to the symphony hall.
Bono spent a lot of time signing autographs and talking to people. He also shook every cop’s hand before he got inside. something nobody else did.
Originally he wanted to get off at the start of the line U2 fans had made and speak to every single one, but the police thought it wasn’t a good idea, because the crowd was very big.
Being just outside the back door of the symphony hall i was able to hear his performance of Pride and The Hands That Built America, his voice was AWESOME!
Also, some guy from the press asked him if boston likes U2 or something like that and he replied, “Are you kidding? Boston invented U2!”

  17. Why is Bono “honoring” a man who killed a woman in Chapaquitick and a career womanizer?

  21. Besides, there’s so much wrong with Ted’s policies and demagoguery, criticizing him for his personal life seems entirely unnecessary.

I’d have a lot more respect for Bono the Political Mover-and-Shaker and liberals in general — and the Democratic Party as a whole — if they honored Joe Lieberman rather than Ted Kennedy.

  23. Last time I checked Joe Lieberman’s appeared on a Democratic presidential ticket, someplace Ted Kennedy’s has never been.
