These lyrics are so beautiful.. and from the sounds of some clips of the songs as well.. it’s going to be so special/beautiful. It does remind me of a mix between Achtung and Unforgettable Fire in terms of lyrics, which to me is heaven on cd, LOL

… my other potential quote was “I am the Edge-man, I am the Bono, koo-koo ka choo” but then I thought everyone would think I’m lame and hate me and force me to listen to Elvis Ate America from Passengers over and over again until my ears bled…

Parts of the lyrics are recycled, but Bono does that on nearly every album. I think, on a whole, these lyrics are deeper than anything since Joshua Tree. I, personally, cannot wait until this CD comes out.

I am somewhat nonplussed about these lyrics, only because without the music it’s like reading bad highschool poetry.
I will say that there appear to be fewer interesting turns of phrases than there used to be. They’re not bad by any means but they’re by no means independently great without the music.
“between the horses of love and lust, we are trampled underfoot” – nothing on that level. Alas.

Deeper tan anything since the Josua Tree? have you heard Achtung Bay, Zooropa and Pop? All these albums contain some of the best lyrics ever written. Tom has a nice example.

[Ed. note: This is the 64th in a series of personal essays by the @U2 staff about songs and/or albums that have had great meaning or impact in our lives.] I like the Pop album. There, I said it. I know I’m in the minority, but I think it’s a solid record that has been underrated ever since its release 15 years ago. It’s not a perfect album, […]

My first impression is that many lyrics sound like they were taken from the Unforgettable Fire era. Think about Promenade, TUF, Bad…
Great.

“I am the Eggman, I am the Bono, koo-koo ka choo”
That’s funny. Bono signed something (my book on Gavin Friday) for me on the last tour and wrote: “I am he and he is she and we are all together.”
The lyrics seem more overtly personal than before.
