Ticketmaster accomodates unlucky U2.com members

Ticketmaster are e-mailing fans ‘whose records show’ they ‘unsuccessfully tried to use their presale passcode’. They are encouraging these fans to contact Ticketmaster with their code, phone number, venue and date.

The e-mail further states Ticketmaster can’t guarantee availability but they’ll ‘try to accommodate legitimate requests. on a 1st-come, 1st-served basis’.

Our sources say the e-mail appears to be legitimate and fans have already been contacted and received the tickets they wanted. To which we can only say: hurrah!

  1. Personally, I’d be very wary of any email that asked me to sent out my username and password to anything at all. Sounds very much like a phishing scheme (if we’re talking about the same email that is).

Next thing they’ll be asking for creditcard info.

  3. i assume this is only for european fans, i dont recall this problem happening in the states. here in the states, my problem was waiting 10+ minutes while ‘searching’ only to have it error out each time. yay for four chicago dates and no ga tickets for any! fuck off u2 and ticketmaster.

  5. This is from American fans, via Atu2.com’s Matt and the e-mail is legit (headers were checked, etc before replying), and fans were contacted by telephone and were able to book their tickets with TM. I wouldn’t have published it otherwise. So far no reports from European fans have come in.

  7. Clumsy way of doing it, but fair enough. At least they’re trying 🙂

I guess that’s where ETS’ tickets went.

  11. I take back everything I said. I switched sessions and browsers, which did accept the code again, then timed out on the creditcard details a few times, but eventually got through. The creditcard detail timeout seems to be set to a very low value though…

  19. Hey, I got the email and I responded. It only asks for your passcode and phone number. TM called me two hours later and I got 2 GA tickets to Chicago on the 7th! So,if you get the email, repond quickly!

I am not sure how TM knew about me. I did complain to u2.com and I did have a transaction fail on TM (I had put in my credit card and then the site crashed). But, whatever happened, u2.com and TM did correct the problem in my case.

I just hope the rest of the members who wanted GA get some tickets. I also hope the next time u2.com goes about the ticket business a little differently.

  29. Interesting… The e-mail I received from Ticketmaster said this:

    Dear Ron,

Thank you for contacting us. We apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced with our website. Unfortunately, we do not have an order for the event you are requesting. Possible causes for the problem you experienced may be:

Your browser may have “Timed-out” – this is a technical problem caused when a transaction does not process after an extended amount of time. Often, these problems are related to the number of users on the web site, problems with an Internet Service Provider or a specific problem with the way your browser is configured to recognize data.

Further, please be advised that, currently, there are no seats remaining for this event [Philadelphia]. When a popular event goes on sale there are literally hundreds and sometimes thousands of customers simultaneously attempting to purchase tickets across all distribution channels. Like any limited commodity, tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and sometimes they go quickly. If 500 fans are simultaneously buying four tickets each, 2,000 tickets can be sold in a matter of seconds! It’s the same reason why a typical 18,000-seat arena can sell out in a few minutes.

It is always possible for a limited number of tickets to become available after an on-sale. Sometimes the venue or promoter will release additional tickets after an event has been taken off sale. Also, in the course of processing orders, we may find accounts that are over the ticket limit, need payment or do not have the correct billing address. In these cases, the order may be cancelled and the seats released back into the system for sale. Therefore, it is possible for additional seats to become available after the initial onsale.

If you have any further questions, please reply and include all previous correspondence.

    Sincerely,
    Keith (Customer Support)

  31. So, it looks like I’m SOL. And, yes, my e-mail to them specifically said that I’d been shut out of both the pre-sale and the regular sale.

  33. I never got through and got many errors, but didn’t have the issue where it wouldn’t take my passcode. Am I SOL? Or is it only for people who e-mailed U2.com or TM to complain? I haven’t seen an e-mail yet.

  35. damn, so there are ga tickets left for 5/7 chicago, hiding somewhere, eh? i had no problem entering my code, it was the constant tm crashing with ‘internal errors’ or timing out that didn’t let me get through until a good 20 minutes after the presale and sales. and then pay $50 for seats behind the stage, no thank you. (lets not even talk about the $40 fanclub bs). oh well, only day i could have made the 8-hour trip to chicago. hope u2 enjoy my $40, far as i can tell, that’ll be all they’ll get from now on.

  37. Would somebody mind emailing me with the Ticketmaster email that’s handing out the GA’s… I didn’t use my passcode last week when all I could get was nosebleeds in Chicago.

I’m not sure if they’re only sending out that email to folks who had the site crash on them… or what. But I definately want to let ticketmaster know that I’m interested if they still have some seats around.

    bhanson@nd.edu

    Thanks!

  39. I had my precode fail and I contacted Ticketmaster, U2.com and Principle Management and low and behold ticketmaster contacted me and hooked me up with 2 GA tickets for Staples Center. I hope everyone else who got screwed gets hooked up as well. The e-mail from ticketmaster was from:

  43. I responded to the e-mail at 4:30PM yesterday and they called me at 10 AM this morning PST.

  45. I was online @ 9:59 AM last Tuesday, refreshed until I saw the purchase tickets form and then received the server error a number of times before being told that only nosebleeds were available. I kept trying, tried again when the tickets went on sale to the public, was on the page for the show they added at Staples Center before it went on sale and ended up with nothing.

I did not receive the email from Ticketmaster, but called them and got nowhere. Does anyone have any idea how they are determining who gets these emails? I read someone surmise that it might be just for people who got an error when they were already at the purchase screen.

  47. Just thought I should let everyone know that they DO NOT have to wait for an email from Ticketmaster. I called customer service this morning and received a call back in a matter of hours. They offered me GA tickets for Denver immediately!

    Call them now!

  49. i was one of those who was literally forced to get bad expensive tickets at the Staples Center in LA. When the code finally worked (after hours of trying) and i was offered junk tickets, well i just took them…. i guess i shouldn’t have since now those who didn’t are being offered better seats… this whole thing is so aggravating! did anyone manage to get bad tickets exchanged? When i called them they said that there would do nothing about tickets already purchased, regardless of the situation. thanks for any suggestions
