How to empty a U2 fan's pocketbook

U2 are offering a variety of t-shirt designs at their Vertigo 05 shows for fans to spend their hard-earned dollars on. The t-shirts, priced at $35, are 100% combed cotton and produced by American Apparel, a company that bills itself as a “sweatshop-free” business.

Several classic design t-shirts (i.e., U2 concert t-shirts from the past) are available at the ridiculous price of $80. If we see you wearing one of the classic design t-shirts, we are going to ask you to give us a dollar.

Also available to purchase: a baseball hat that is going to make people think you work at Target ($25); buttons ($2); several posters ($10-$15); tour program ($20); a hooded sweatshirt ($65); and a “V” key chain ($10).

  • An idea whose time has come…of course, the inflated price is not because of the labor costs!!!!
Whether it actually is “sweatshop-free” is another can of worms, but this is a step in the right direction… bravo!
(no, I didnt buy this shyt, these prices are insulting)

  • It’s a shame that with all the jubilee 2000 work (and similar stuff) the band has done they’re charging these prices. I love the band to death but this is ridiculous.

  • Can you imagine what kind of prizes will be in Europe? 120€ for vintage t-shirt? No,thanks! I prefer EDUN for 110€:)))

  • “$90? Do you think that’s real vintage?” “No, but I think it’s real greedy.”

  • Posters and programme prices seem reasonable to me. Vintage t-shirts at $80 is just bizarre.

  • 65 for a hoodie, not too bad either.

  • re: American Apparel, it is sweatshop-free, the garments are made in Los Angeles. They give their workers more of a say in working conditions and decent pay. My only problem with them is that they don’t want any union organizing there, but it is a well-known company with a mission to stop exploitation of workers.

The prices of these items sounds reasonable compared to what other bands that play big venues charge.

  • I have my “vintage” Unforgetable Fire tour shirt that I thought I paid a lot for back in 84. I’ll wear that to the show.

  • They’d sell even more shirts if they lowered the price, duh. Let me take over the reigns of the U2 zoo. lol. I would cause an ascending bar graph of sales!

$20.00 for a shirt would be reasonable, but still expensive by my standards. Though I paid $35.00 for an Elevation t-shirt that read Medium on the tag, but fit like an extra large. Due to the fact that there were 200 people in line I couldn’t deliberate over sizing issues. If any ladies want a grey Elevation sleeping gown, please email me @ rock_martyr@yahoo.com.

Natnino…How much was your UF shirt back in the day?

  • Don’t know about Natnino’s shirt, but my UF shirt back then was $12. My JT tour shirts were $16, with the exception of this big white dress-shirt-like shirt (with a modest JT logo on the left front breast pocket area) was $30.

Tix back then were $18.50 floor and $16.50 off floor and balcony levels. Those were the days!
