In the Name of Food

Toss out your paper lunch sacks and prepare to pack your lunch with style. Bono, Edge, and Anton Corbijn have designed lunchboxes for an online auction to benefit two hunger relief organizations, the Food Bank for New York City and the Lunchbox Fund. Currently, only Corbijn’s and Edge’s lunchboxes are available to bid at the eBay-hosted auction. Bono’s lunchbox will be available to bid in a future auction (10 lunchboxes become available every 10 days). Each lunchbox is signed and numbered by the artist who designed it.

R.E.M. fansite Murmurs.com reports that Bono and Coldplay’s Chris Martin engaged in a furious bidding war for R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe’s lunchbox, with Martin emerging victorious with a $20,000 bid; and that The Edge purchased former President Bill Clinton’s box for $11K. How terribly impetuous!

  • Maybe Edge’s lunchbox reflects painful childhood memories of having his lunch stolen by bullies (or Bono) every day?
