U2 go Wandering for Johnny

U2 appeared on the TV tribute ‘I Walk the Line: A Night for Johnny Cash’ on Wednesday, playing their song ‘The Wanderer’, previously recorded with Cash for the Zooropa album. Because of their tour commitments, the band couldn’t appear on the show themselves, so the cameras came to them. While Bono’s valiant effort may not have entirely equalled the Man in Black’s unearthly deep tones, The Edge impressed with an angelic falsetto on the song’s backing vocals: ‘wah-wah-wah-wah-wandering’. Now wouldn’t that be a great thing to put on U2.com’s renewal CD?

  • before edge landed his spaceship in the rough weathers of dublin’s northside…*drumroll*….
he played in the beach boys.

incredibly beautiful performance. “extraordinary” as someone else would put it.

can’t wait for the movie, anybody knows when it will be released in europe?!

  • That was truly a wonderful performance. I certainly wasn’t expecting The Edge to go off like that at the end. He kicked ass. And his guitar sound was Zooro-perfect.

Now, question… I saw a brief cut to what looked like a U2 audience, which means it looked like The Wanderer was filmed at a recent show. But that can’t be the case, since we would have all heard about it if they played it. Could it be that it was done at soundcheck with a little crowd footage thrown in to the final cut? Those sly Irishmen.

  • That was totally cool! I almost didn’t record it, but I changed my mind at the last minute. I would have kicked myself if I hadn’t recorded it after all!

  • What a great performance of that song! I thought Adam and Larry were stellar and the Edge just sold it so well. I knew that Larry had a streak of country in him, but they handled it great, of course putting there own style into the performance as well. Just great.

  • It was recorded in Los Angeles at a soundcheck. So most likely, it was crew and some family.
