U2′s fabulous year
Billboard has published Paul McGuinness’ reflections on 2005:
“This was such a great year for U2. A No. 1 album in 20 countries, 110 shows all sold out, 3.3 million tickets sold, 100% of the tickets we put on sale. Nine million-plus sold of the current record, 3 million catalog, 2 million DVDs. U2 have never been bigger or better. Next year after Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, we will end the Vertigo tour in Honolulu.”
We’d say that was a pretty good year too, full of many numbers.
A Nite Out in Mexico & South America
ETS, the official tour and travel operator for the Vertigo tour, has informed us that it is now offering Nite Out packages for the shows in Mexico and South America. (Previously, ETS was only offering hotel and ticket packages for those locations.) Nite Out packages provide you with admission to a pre-show party and a ticket to the show. Good deal. Good fun.
Santiago concert details revealed by promoter

- Tickets will be available for sale ONLY from Ripley’s and can be purchased online at www.ripley.cl. (Disregard the previously published information about tickets being sold via Ticketmaster.cl.)
- Ticket prices ranges from US$37 to US$335 (19.000 to 175.000 pesos)
Rock promoter’s archives sold online
Wolfgang’s Vault is ‘the world’s most exceptional collection of poster art, vintage t-shirts, concert photos, concert tickets and other rock music memorabilia.’
The Vault contains the private collection of American rock promoter Bill Graham (born Wolfgang Grajonza), who died in a helicopter crash in 1991.
A Minneapolis entrepreneur named Bill Sagan bought the collection two and a half years ago, paying the then owners, Clear Channel, the sum of $5 million. Neither buyer nor seller were aware at the time that the archives contain rare rock recordings.
Graham counted U2 among his clients and his role in helping the band break America has been well documented. The collection features various posters, t-shirts and photographs of the band, which can be acquired through Wolgangsvault.com at elevated prices.

Rattle and Hum on Blu-ray DVD.
Paramount Pictures is planning to release U2′s Rattle and Hum the Blu-ray high definition DVD format “sometime in early 2006“. Paramount has stated that they will support both Blu-ray as well as the competing HD-DVD standard – so hopefully U2 fans won’t be caught in the middle of the upcoming high definition DVD format war. Anyone old enough to remember VHS vs Beta?
Book ‘em, Danno!
U2 are rumored to have booked the Aloha Stadium in Honolulu for a show on Saturday, April 8. This date is expected to be the final date of the Vertigo Tour.
The buzz is the Honolulu show will be officially announced next week.
Achtung Chile!
