U2 recording in Morocco
Bono applauds U.S. President Bush’s AIDS proposal says USA Today, which is all very nice, but what we really want to know is what the band is up to musically. Well fret no more, because the same interview reveals the boys are in the studio in Fez, Morocco, recording for their new album.
As atu2.com reported last week, Daniel Lanois was recently spotted hanging out with the band in a Dublin studio. We can confirm this and add the news that Lanois is not alone… his old friend ‘Ben O’Rian’ has come along for the ride. Allegedly.
Meanwhile, Fez-based blog ‘The View from Fez’ is trying to catch up with Bono.

I’m guessing Ben O’Rian’ is Brian Eno, not Rick Rubin. Hopefully, they’ll craft the songs with Lanois and Eno, but then go record them with Rubin.

If we get another song like Mysterious Ways, then I’ll be over the moon. They already recorded about two albums worth of material with Rick Rubin, so it’s not a stretch to assume they’re polishing up those tracks and making an album. XD

Don’t forget that “Mysterious Ways” was recorded in Berlin (right?). It was only the video that was done in Morocco.
If I were to take a guess at the musical direction they are taking by recording in Morocco, I would be wrong, because it’s probably like nothing they have done before.

I love Fast Cars! I prefer the live version most though, with the Edge’s swaggering electric guitar at the end.

They did? Have you got a source for this quote, Jedi? I hope it’s true, but I thought they just recorded two songs at Abbey Road (“The Saints are Coming” and “Window in the Skies”).

It was a comment of Edge’s in an interview. I’ll track it down. Of course, two albums worth of songs in the demo stage means it’ll add up to half a studio album.

I am also excited. It would perhaps be nice to hear some african/arab-inspired from U2. “Fast Cars” rocks. My impression from U2.COM, was that this is all new material. Let’s hope they stick with Eno and Lanois for this album.
