Herbert Grönemeyer and Bono performing Grönemeyer’s ‘Mensch’ (lyrics) in German at the P8 festival in Rostock.

Bono also performed Redemption Song with Youssou N’Dour and Bob Geldof, You Never Give Me Your Money / Carry That Weight with Youssou N’Dour, Bob Geldof, and the Toten Hosen’s Campino, and Get Up Stand Up with Youssou N’Dour and Bob Geldof.

  • funny what a language does to a voice. watched it live on TV yesterday, what a great, moving moment, seeing those two great artists together singing this this precious song. I also loved grönemeyer’ pleas to “frau merkel”. brilliant.

  • It looks like Bono is about to burst out laughing at himself singing in German. I guess that walking-with-a-stone-in-his-shoe look he has on his face is concentration, remembering how to pronounce the lyrics.

    Is it a coincidence U2 are with Eno and Lanois “experimenting and liberating”, and Bono is in Germany? When was the last time we had those two words and Germany at the same time? ;)
