U2 album re-release dates

U2tour.de has pried some information from the German branch of Universal, concerning release dates for various remastered albums.

The upcoming release dates are:

6th june: Boy, October
20th june: War, Under a blood red sky

Keep in mind that these are release dates for Germany, where CDs in general are released on Friday. U2tour.de speculate this could mean 9th/23rd june for the UK, and 10th/24th for the US.

All albums will be released in the following formats:
Single-cd-version, double-cd-deluxe-version, vinyl.

There will also be another DVD, ‘Live at Red Rocks” which is slated some time in July.

  • If they are going to take the time to remaster, why not do it in some sort of 5.1, like DVD Audio … otherwise it is just really a waste of time and money

  • i respectfully disagree. remastering does a hell of a lot to bring out some of the sounds on an album. the probalem is that, on cd, you can’t really hear much of a difference. i got the remaster of the joshua tree, however, on VINYL, and it sounds FREAKIN’ AMAZING! so… go vinyl, or go home.

  • I looked at Boy, October, and War on Amazon and they all come in a two-disk edition. What will be on these disks? How much bonus material could there possibly be for these albums? For some reason I don’t think of this period as having a ton of extra stuff left over that hasn’t already been released.

  • well there is a bunch of outtakes from the war era such as various takes of two hearts beat as one. don’t think these have ever officially surfaced anywhere… and I’m sure there#s tons of other material that we haven’t heard of, such as was the case with the extra JT tracks that came on the extra disc on the recent re-release…

I’m quite confident these packages will have some surprising and attractive material included…

  • The 2-disc Boy will include Larry’s very rare Artane Boys Band demo that got U2 their first record deal.

  • I would love to hear good, clear versions of EARLY songs like Magic Carpet, Life on a Distant Planet, The Dream is Over, etc which are only available as poor quality demo versions. That’s what I would love to see. For Boy anyway. I’m not very familiar with the outtakes from October or War, but would love to hear them! A full Red Rocks dvd would be a godsend! interestingly enough, the sound quality on all three of those sounds perfect to me

  • It’s been 17 years since Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and Zoo TV. These times had some of my most favorite U2 material, and I would love to see a remaster of these albums. I think they’ll probably wait until 2011 for these, the full 20 years.
I bought the remaster of Joshua Tree. It’s those little bits of sound, the slight increase in clarity, and, other things that you don’t notice on the original that just amplifies the enjoyment.
