As a reminder, the survey was open from April 5th through April 30th. We received completed responses from 3,530 fans in 79 countries this year, both of which are down from 2010. We think that's likely due to the band […]
- A Look at My U2 Framed Album Cover Wall (PHOTOS) May 22, 2012How would you like to have a wall in your house covered with perfectly framed U2 album cover art? You could just have your favorite U2 albums on the wall or, like me, you could go all the way and put every U2 album on display in order — like this: That’s one of the [...]This is a post from the @U2 blog.A Look at My U2 Framed Album Cover Wall (PHOTOS) […]
- The Resource Miracle May 22, 2012[Note: This essay appeared in the May 28, 2012, edition of TIME magazine.] It's become the go-to cliché of modern economics. Natural resources are a "curse." When a nation is over-reliant on one or two commodities like oil or precious minerals, corrupt government ministers and their dodgy associates hoard profits and taxes instead of properly […]
- Bono Pays One More Tribute to Steve Jobs May 22, 2012Bono made an appearance via video tonight at the Webby Awards, contributing to a tribute to Steve Jobs. A host of tech legends and celebrities each paid tribute to Jobs in five words or less, a Webby Awards tradition. It looks like Bono’s contribution was recorded within the past week, but that’s just a guess. [...]This is a post from the @U2 blog.Bono Pays […]

The Police and Elvis Costello, cool. John Legend, equally cool. And now… Noooooo! Oh gods no! It’s the Dixie Chicks! Ugh, my eyes, my ears, it burns…

I like The Killers a bit. I like Elton John. I like Neil Tennant. But together they’ve wrought something awful.

the U2 clip is up…I Beleive in Father Christmas.
great to see/hear the boys. Bono sounds great, eyeliner a bit awkward…
perfect Edge guitar for this song-
Poor Adam and Larry, we’ll have to wait to hear them unleash…hopefully sooner than later!
also makes you wonder if this Red deal caused the delay in the album?
Cheryl Crow sounds good too-

so it turns out not to be a NEW u2 track – but it sure is good to see/hear them play! They do a great job with this great tune

Not bad … I doubt this was the culprit that has delayed new album …
IMHO a pretty simple arrangement that after a fairly quick discussion of how to play it that they nailed it in a couple takes:
“Edge: You arpeggiate the chords. Adam: Pluck your bass a couple times. Larry: Just keep playin’ the drums there. Me: I’ll sing softly and then crescendo in the middle, then sing softly again. Everybody got it?”

Yeah, glad to see U2 contribute to this cause but the song didn’t do much for me and, to be quite honest, a pretty significant disappointment in that it was a rehash of someone else’s tune. Since it’s been since 2004 for a new U2 record, I thought *maybe* it’d be new material but whatever…more into other bands these days…(TVOTR, Spoon, Black Keys).
Hurry Boys. Hurry fast.

I like it; I must have watched the video about six times by now.
Bono’s eyeliner gives me strange and confusing feelings. I think, “Why?!” and “Ooh, that’s kinda hot,” at the same time.

I knew it’d be a cover. Not bad, but it’s not lighting up my night. No way this is the reason for the album delay either, the lads knocked this up in a day or two I reckon. But what about the Killers/Elton John/Neil Tennant song though, how odd is it? At first I thought it was Dr Who singing, but then I realised it was Neil channeling Kim Carnes’s Bette Davis Eyes. It weirds me out.

Not very keen on Coldplay, but I like their song with Kylie.

Jedi, I wasn’t talking about the ‘time spent’ making this song, it was more of letting (Red) roll now and not have it in conflict with the album-
I also think that U2 will contribute a new song as part of the RED Wire campaign before it’s all said and done-

Is it just me – or are people just expecting too much from these guys? This song ( IMHO ) is remarkably beautiful. Ya, ya – it’s a cover I get it. But that doesn’t make it any less beautiful. Bono has his hands in his pockets and that somehow makes him not care ?? silly criticism is exactly that. WHo cares about the eye liner – stop looking and start listening ( please ). This is authentic, genuine beauty – regardless of our expectations. I hope some of us will maybe realize the beauty of this and much of their other work when they no longer have such high expectations. Keep it up boys. The suspense for the next album is killing me and that’s just the way I like it. Peace on earth!

Bouke, methinks you’ve misread the eyeliner joke. And no one said anything about Bono not caring cos his hands are in his pockets, where’d you get that from? Everyone who has posted comments here likes the song, except for FWIW. So I’m not sure who your chiding is directed at — another board maybe?

@bouke:
while i agree that some criticisms may be silly, i also think it’s good to keep high expectations — for U2, any band or anything in life.
otherwise it’s just settling.
kind of like when I dated this one girl way back in high school. things were going rough, so I always just set my expectations low toward the end — that way, anything was better than my expectation. Turned out to not be a very good plan.
cheers/slainte!

I agree that it’s a beautiful song. It suits U2 and their style really well. Edge’s guitar sounds great! It’s so bouncy and festive.

My mother always told me if I didn’t have anything nice to say…
Edge played well.

hey Jedi -
It wasn’t so much chiding as it was a general frustration – and not really specified to the comments above. It was generalized and in the wrong place/thread. I had to let what’s in me come out – know what I mean?
Cheers
