Five different versions of U2′s No Line on the Horizon

noline-cover.jpg

Amazon is listing five different versions of U2′s new album ‘No Line on the Horizon’.

Two of the versions mentions a ‘film download’. This should refer to a film the Dutch photographer and director Anton Corbijn shot for the album.

  • Five versions for each member of the band, as they personally want it. That’d be cool, even though there’s only four in the band.

  • Wow… I hope I can manage to scrape together $95 by then. Surely the price will go down in the meantime…?

  • Yeah, I am not happy about these price points–I am sure they’ll come down a bit, but $95–?!?!??! just wrong.

  • Everyone seen the U2 mini-site at Q Mag online? There’s a pic of the lads, and Bono has the kohl on. Growwrrr! ;-) Unless it’s the reason why he wears shades…

  • Hey, this means Caroline gets to do a U2log makeover! About time, the HTDAAB pic is a little too Weekend At Bernies with the Edge on the left, if you ask me.

  • i don’t like $95 either, but er, radiohead sold a deluxe of in rainbows for $80 and NIN sold a deluxe of ghosts for $300. we could argue over what’s inside the deluxes, yes, u2′s does not look worth $95 based on that listing, but if you are bringing up radiohead and NIN because they gave away basic downloads of their albums for free, then really just get mad at u2 for daring to sell the single cd for $9.99 or whatever it is.

  • Umm, Radiohead charged $80 plus shipping or so for their physical box set of the last album. You got 8 new tunes, but still not that different. Look at it as providing options. You don’t have to buy the huge one.

  • @u2vox: You are bang on.These are options. It’s not like the album itself will cost us $95. I’m sure just the album on its own will be $20 ( if that ) Buy the grand package if you can afford it – don’t if you can’t. Options are fantastic. Options people, options.

  • Alright, since the release date is out in the open – I reckon we should have a ‘guess the date the full album is out at your favorite torrent site’ contest? Plus a bonus prize for naming which of the 4 leaves their CD behind for some thief to grab.

  • will never buy a $95 u2 album. The $12.99 sounds just as good.

  • I can’t say whether or not I will be buying, or which version I’ll be buying. I’ve got to see them first. And I’ll buy whatever version seems the best value for money. If the 95 dollar version is really pretty, hell ya, I’ll buy it. Who knows, maybe I’ll think the whole package is shite, and I’ll make do with a download.

I want to see the Corbijn film though (not because it’s U2… because it’s Corbijn!), and I reckon (speculating) you will only be able to see it using some kind of unlock code on the deluxe versions. Which is so, so, 1998. C’mon fellers, kick the dinosaur out of your mindset.

Anyway, some clever person will hack it, I’m sure.

  • Off topic… but I was really looking forward to u2log.com posting its annual rare U2 song “Christmas treat”. Looks like it might not happen this year. Sniff, sniff.

  • uh oh. weird album title and dodgy cover.

  • I love this band. I love them so much if I had a million I would give them the $10000 for the album but come on, has anyone told those billionaires we are in a recession? I am only bitching because I am jealous I won’t be able to get the $95 album. I won’t get the best U2 experience that I can get because I just don’t have the extra cash right now, and for me and a lot of other nerds who are reading this reply to a nerdy blog (no offense u2log which is my nerdy homepage) I am really sad. My only hope is to make fun and pick on the $95 version and hope that all the extras are posted on the web. Thank you p***** b##.

  • Matt,
with you 100%.I have set the money aside for the big one but with mates going to 4 or 3 day week and my own postion fragile I too may end up making Tesco’s richer instead of getting that set.I had the same with the POP tour and missed that due to a lack of money etc, think I might miss out this time too which is leaving me a little fracked off (understatement) ha ha still the DVD are okay now and I can drink my own water while I watch it(shame on you Cardiff millenuim staduim 2004 ) I remember the band in an interview saying how their industry is hurting too so I think that is why we have had a surge of their products rather than cashing in , on a strange tangent Mike peters of the alarm did a box set years ago(rather good) allowed fans to buy in installements imagine the same here with loans for tickets and products……sorry to rant i will get back in the box now

  • @c: Arguing what is inside of those box sets is exactly my point. If U2 wishes to put $95 worth of material in the box then I wouldn’t have a negative word to say about it. But a book, a couple of fold out posters and a DVD for a hundred bucks? I’ll tell you exactly where they can shove that.

  • I’ll easily spend 95 dollars or more on dinner with friends, a pair of shoes or a new coat. I’ve spent more on collectibles, a rare single or 12″, etc. I don’t see what the problem is. There are five options, pick the one you can afford. I think some people are just itching to bitch.

  • oh caroline i am so disapointed ,for some people that is a lot of money (people are being put down to 4 day weeks or losing their jobs) and i feel very uneasy with this buy what you can afford attitude although me gran would say wise words.I thought they wanted to be inclusive not exclusive.

  • I can’t stay in luxury hotels, can’t afford it. Yet you don’t hear me bitching all hotels should be equal and the same price. U2 is offering five options, at five different price levels. It IS inclusive. Now if they’d only offered one option at 95 dollars, that would be something to bitch about. As it is, really, I don’t see what the problem is. Get the one you can afford. Or don’t get it. Just, you know, don’t moan about what you can’t afford. It’s this sense of entitlement that gets on my tits.

The third set of results from the 2012 U2 Fan Survey is now available, and it takes us through your votes on U2's albums and songs. As a reminder, the survey was open from April 5th through April 30th. We received completed responses from 3,530 fans in 79 countries this year, both of which are down from 2010. We think that's likely due to the band […]

  • The Resource Miracle May 22, 2012
[Note: This essay appeared in the May 28, 2012, edition of TIME magazine.] It's become the go-to cliché of modern economics. Natural resources are a "curse." When a nation is over-reliant on one or two commodities like oil or precious minerals, corrupt government ministers and their dodgy associates hoard profits and taxes instead of properly […]
  • Bono Pays One More Tribute to Steve Jobs May 22, 2012

A host of tech legends and celebrities each paid tribute to Jobs in five words or less, a Webby Awards tradition. It looks like Bono’s contribution was recorded within the past week, but that’s just a guess. [...]This is a post from the @U2 blog.Bono Pays […]
