Video of U2 performing ‘Pride’ and ‘City of Blinding Lights’ at the Lincoln Memorial

“What a thrill for four Irish boys from the Northside of Dublin to honour u, sir, the next president of the United States, Barack Obama…”

  • Removed already. Frakking YouTube. I thought this was meant to be a free event for all? I guess the tv networks have other ideas.

  • Er, nevermind my Caprican cursing, the second video works fine. I love love love Bono sneaking in a mention of Israel and Palestine — I’d give a million bucks to know what Obama was thinking at that moment. Rock ‘n’ roll can be a dangerous thing. Go Bono! But man it looks cold there, it’s a balmy 35 celsius here. :^D

  • Awkward, corny, nervous… all heart.

Abraham Lincoln > “PRIDE” < Barack Obama

    Amazing.

  • Cringeworthy for mine.

  • Bono and Edge kept laughing at each other at the absurdity of it all, so I wouldn’t be too harsh on the lads Briscotheque. Not a very good performance, but it was bloody freezing (bono wouldn’t have added to the Hewson clan that night!).

It was worth it though just to hear Bono mention MLK and Palestine in the same sentence, in front of the new President of the United States, Washington, tens of millions of people worldwide… BRILLIANT! Rock ‘n’ roll is a dangerous thing. Bono has balls of steel for bringing up Palestine at the US President’s inauguration celebrity bash! U2 are copping a lot of flak for being there, but Bono got his street cred back with the Israel/Palestine reminder.
