  • Just wondering why they picked that horrible song to play over the video instead of, um, you know … a U2 song? I’m mean, seriously. … As for the stage: A bit gaudy and over-the-top, don’t you think? And I’m a HUGE fan. And Edge says they’re only going to play half the new album, meaning like 15 ‘old’ songs per set. Awful lot of over-the-top stuff for 5 new songs and the best-of stuff. But what do I know?

  • It was awesome when U2 did not do so much interviews and t.v shows. Fans were always eagered to hear/watch what U2 had to say. Now they are all over the place, gets boring after a while. Im a huge Fan and all but thats just my input.

  • @Jay:
WHAT? the stage is too over the top?!!
how long have u been a fan? this is the kind of stuff U2 is known for. You’re gonna take issue with the size of the stage? before it is used? over the top is what this band is and always has been what they give you when they perform live and that’s why you get your money’s worth. Give me gaudy! give me over the top! give me U2.
Gotta love these folks out here criticizing the band before even ONE show on this tour. And 15 “old” songs from their catalogue ( which, in case you didn’t realize is 3 decades worth of music to choose from ) really isn’t a big deal. Criticize all you want – but NOT before they play even one damn show on this tour ( please, it really isn’t fair )

  • Bourke … I’ve seen U2 21 times and I’ve met them 4 times, plus, I probably have one of the largest U2 collections on planet earth. I’ve been a fan since 1986. The stage is gaudy. Sorry. As for the setlist, my only wish is that they finally put ‘Bullet’ to bed. Oh, and New Year’s Day.

  • You’re a wanker, Jay.

  • Alright, alright. Play the ball, not the man.

  • For having all that U2 stuff and experience, we all fall at your feet Jay…
but seriously, I’m not here to posture.
The fact you have such an admirable U2 background makes your comments even more so surprising – given we have yet to see the stage anywhere near completion or in use …
As much as you think the stage is gaudy, I think its is very premature to judge it.

  • Yo Jedi … I’ll respect Caroline’s wishes and play nice. But trust me, there is not a bigger U2 fan on the planet. I’ll put my knowledge and collection of the band up against simply anyone. My U2 expertise is simply staggering. I’ll take anyone’s best shot.

  • Jay – nobody’s discussing your knowledge or collections here, so why are you posturing? I thought this was about the stage …(?)

  • Yeah, it’s about the stage – which is gaudy. Give me an indoor arena tour any day. Haven’t been less excited about a U2 tour since Pop*Mart.

  • that’s too bad, Jay. I hope it all changes for you when the tour actually starts. For me, PopMart was their best. To each their own.
Do you like NLOTH? I sense maybe not(?)

  • Hey bourke … Yeah, I like the new album – but enough with the abbreviations, OK? That’s so queer. I’m sick and freaking tired of ‘fans’ using those queer abbreviations. Stop it! Just call it ‘No Line’ … not their best effort, but some good stuff in there for sure. Edge says they’re only playing about half of it live, which is disappointing … why release a CD with 11 songs, but only play a handful of them on a tour? Makes no sense to me. Larry said they’d never do a best-of tour; if they only play, say, five new songs, this sure sounds like a best-of tour to me. I wish it would just get here already.

  • Jay,
First of all – relax. Second, relax. And third – please spell my name as you see it here … why the R in there? That is so queer of you!

relax dude. the tour will start soon enough. Then we will have ALL the answers.

The third set of results from the 2012 U2 Fan Survey is now available, and it takes us through your votes on U2's albums and songs. As a reminder, the survey was open from April 5th through April 30th. We received completed responses from 3,530 fans in 79 countries this year, both of which are down from 2010. We think that's likely due to the band […]
  • A Look at My U2 Framed Album Cover Wall (PHOTOS) May 22, 2012
How would you like to have a wall in your house covered with perfectly framed U2 album cover art? • The Resource Miracle May 22, 2012
[Note: This essay appeared in the May 28, 2012, edition of TIME magazine.] It's become the go-to cliché of modern economics. Natural resources are a "curse." When a nation is over-reliant on one or two commodities like oil or precious minerals, corrupt government ministers and their dodgy associates hoard profits and taxes instead of properly […]
  • Bono Pays One More Tribute to Steve Jobs May 22, 2012
Bono made an appearance via video tonight at the Webby Awards, contributing to a tribute to Steve Jobs. A host of tech legends and celebrities each paid tribute to Jobs in five words or less, a Webby Awards tradition. It looks like Bono’s contribution was recorded within the past week, but that’s just a guess. [...]This is a post from the @U2 blog.Bono Pays […]
