  • Saw that some people are starting to complain about having the same set list every night … yeah, they could stand to change things up a little bit. And please: no more Michael Jackson snipets. He’s dead. Move on.

  • Eff off Jay and all you setlist whingers. Most people only see one or two gigs a tour, not every effing concert on two continents. Seriously, eff off and die you selfish gits.

  • Seeing the MJ snippets in “Angel of Harlem” again, I would agree that it is time for Bono to move on. Obviously, Michael’s death was tragic and it’s a massive loss, but I don’t recall U2 having much to do with the King of Pop in the past (save the corny references when introducing “Bad”) and singing his songs every night of the tour so far and more than two weeks after MJ’s death seems a little exploitive.

Besides, “Man in the Mirror” is a far clumsier ending to “Angel of Harlem” than “Mystery Girl!”

  • I’m betting that if you go back to 1987 and look at the set lists from the JT tour it’s pretty much the same thing show after show. The only difference between then and now is that today you’ve got people texting the setlist as it happens. TMI. Everybody needs to relax and have a good time. Don’t like what they’re playing? Don’t go to the show.

  • How odd, these comments about Michael Jackson. ‘He’s been dead for 2 weeks, move on already’.
Elvis has been dead for 3 decades, nobody’s surprised or irritated when snippets of his work appear (which is wise, because Larry Mullen jr. would kick your ass). MLK’s gone even longer, nobody tells Bono that it’s time to move on. Michael Hutchence had neither the status, nor the musical impact of Michael Jackson but he was a personal friend of Bono, so fans ‘get’ it when Stuck In A Moment is played.
But Michael Jackson? He is só not rock&roll, só absurd and uncool, só not U2, people find it a bit embarrassing if Bono sings his work.
Whatever you thought of the ‘King of Pop’, you can hardly underestimate the influence he had on (dance)music, nor the opportunities he created for black artists and the fact that he ‘crossed over’ and was one of the first to get a white fanbase worldwide. But all that is irrelevant, was he an obscure singer or even a chartered accountant, it’s the band’s business if they want to commemorate him during the show and for how long.
Now let’s all dance to that wonderful remix of Crazy….

  • The “If you don’t like it, don’t go” reactions are week. This is a comment area and we’re commenting. If you don’t like the comment, stop visiting the website! … See? Weak.

Relax. We’re all looking forward to seeing the band and enjoying studying the setlists, photos, and videos as they come back. There’s just one bit that seems out of place and, through the magic of technology, we’re able to go, “Hey, did you notice that, too?” to the rest of the planet.

I also want to say that I share my views on this with Cookie Puss and flygirl. Let them do what they do.
Be happy every U2 concert is unique, in every place, none is equal to another. That is also U2, same songs, but different interpretations, it is not a disk that is repeated constantly, every concert is special, the audience participates differently. With the tributes I have known musical groups, writers, activists.

Bono and U2 playing Bob Marley on MLK Elvis, Roy, Michael H & J, Ramone, …, her friends, her mother in many songs, his father and thousands more. Man in a Mirror is a great song!

Look at the video WINDOWS IN THE SKIES!

  • Look, this isn’t the playground and you’re all supposed to be adults. At this point, you’re all getting on my nerves and if people here can’t communicate like decent human beings, I’ll be removing your buckets. You are all guests here and I won’t tolerate this macho posturing while I work my arse off keeping this site going.

If someone’s obnoxious, just ignore them and let me take care of it.

[Ed. note: This is the 64th in a series of personal essays by the @U2 staff about songs and/or albums that have had great meaning or impact in our lives.] I like the Pop album. There, I said it. I know I’m in the minority, but I think it’s a solid record that has been underrated ever since its release 15 years ago. It’s not a perfect album, […]
