Fans at U2source.com start U2 podcast

U2Source.com has created a U2 related podcast called the ‘U2 Chatcast’.

In these podcasts (what is a podcast?) you can listen to discussions between some well known and opinionated U2 fans. The first U2 Chatcast has just been made available and it features Matt from atu2.com, Michael from michaelvox.com and u2source.com’s own Dan Eliot.

To subscribe to the show and listen to it on your mp3 player, add the rss feed below to your favourite podcasting client:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/U2chatcastDIR

Or just go to the show’s page to download the mp3.

http://www.u2source.com/node/152

‘Podcasting’ is making audio files (most commonly in MP3 format) available online in a way that allows software to automatically download the files for listening at the user’s convenience.

Leg II: Let’s get this party started

The band have arrived at the Koning Boudewijn stadium in Brussels and at U2log.com the European contingent of our team is gearing up to go see and report on our first shows this tour. You can help us. Got a camera phone or a (digital) camera? Do you know how to e-mail pictures from your phone? Can you moblog? Drop us a line and we’ll give you an e-mail address to send your pictures to. And if you see us on the road, come say hello. (I’m the quiet one.)

No wristbanding
U2.com says the ‘wristbanding system’ will not apply to the European concerts as there is ‘lots of room on the floor’. However the organisation will require as security the deeds of your house, of your aunt’s house, of your second cousin’s house, of your wife’s parents’ house, and of your grannie’s bungalow, and they will in addition need a controlling interest in your company, unrestricted access to your private bank account, the deposit in PM’s vaults of your three children as hostages and a full legal indemnity against any acts of embezzlement carried out against you by any members of U2 or their crew during the normal course of duty

Portuguese fanclub celebrates five-year existence

Happy anniversary to our friends at U2portugal.com on their five-year existence today.

To celebrate the day, the site did an interview with RTE’s Dave Fanning, who after 27 years in their vicinity still has no grasp on the success of his fellow countrymen:

“No band should be as big and famous and probably as creative as they are. I don’t understand.”

Neither do we, Dave.

Fans get ready to blog U2's imminent tour

With the Vertigo tour imminent, new fan-driven websites are popping up left and right. ‘Vertigo Tour Fans‘ is a weblog initiative by members of u2portugal.com. They aim to share ‘feelings and experiences’ generated by the concerts and are still looking for more volunteers.

U2neophobia.com, whose soft launch we covered before, is now available in its definite form. Its goal is to provide daily news coverage in ‘a new and pro-active way’. U2neophobia.com is a French-language site. Let that not keep you from checking it out. It is definitely one of the better designed U2 sites on the web.

New U2 bootleg archive site launches

Get your boot on at achtungbootlegs.com, a new smart-looking site dedicated to the archiving of information on U2 audio and video bootlegs. It’s there both for and by the grace of fans as the makers expect you to review bootlegs and add the information — from barcode to source, covers and screenshots — to the site. Available in French and in English (though parts of the entry forms apparently still need translating) achtungbootlegs.com will hopefully grow into a great resource for bootleg collectors.

Waiter 'rants' about Larry Mullen

A New York waiter mentions Larry Mullen on his blog ‘Waiter Rant‘.

Nothing but good about the drummer, he’s characterised as ‘unassuming, polite and a good tipper’.

Staff at this waiter’s bistro are under strict policy to treat celebs as everyone else. Weblogger Waiter can’t help but think the policy is a ‘pain in the ass’ sometimes, as he and his co-worker are ‘HUGE U2 fans’:

“So the next time Larry comes in can we ask him to get Bono to front us a loan?” Arlene asks mischievously.

“Be nice.” I agree

“Yeah.”

“If we were a Third World country.”.

“I’ll settle for tickets.” Arlene says.

“Me too.”

Read the full story at Waiter Rant.

Australian U2 fan competes in brainy TV quiz

An Australian U2 fan, known to U2log.com regulars as ‘ich bin ein elmo’, will be appearing on The Einstein Factor, a ‘nerdfest quiz show’ on Australia’s ABC. Elmo has chosen ‘U2′ as her speciality. Taping takes place on January 25 and she’ll be writing about it on her weblog at floatingsignifier.com. Read all about it in the January 10 entry and maybe you can help her out with her weak points.
