New ticket swap meet for U2log.com readers
U2log.com readers who have tickets to swap or trade (Face value only, please. Re-selling U2 tickets for profit is illegal.) can join our new U2log // trade mailing list.
Please be aware that with 300+ members, this has quickly become a busy mailing list. We advise users to consider reading the messages on the group’s website, rather than having them delivered to your mailbox. You can set this in your preferences on the site. Choose ‘no email’ or ‘digest’.

After the end of the U2 Vertigo tour, this service may continue as a general U2 talk mailing list.
Ticketmaster and U2.com info clash
U2.com sent out another e-mail to their members earlier today in which they state the following:
“As a U2.Com subscriber you can use your unique code sent in our earlier email to buy four tickets for shows in ONE of the following countries – Ireland, France, Spain, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Portugal.”
… so, if your country happens to have more concerts than one (France and Germany for example), you can supposedly buy 2 tickets for the one gig now and 2 for another within the same country when they go on sale. (Paris / Nice. Gelsenkirchen / Munich) Or can you?
In the same e-mail, the advice from Ticketmaster states:
You can only purchase up to 4 tickets for a single show of your choice.
Poor communication has been the main reason for the current confusion and uproar over U2 ticket sales. So much heartache could have been prevented and could still be prevented if only the information was loud and clear. Whoever’s in charge of this, it’s time shift professional gears. The days of the Dandelion Market have long gone.
And for those of you buying tickets today: we think it’s best to stick to Ticketmaster’s advice.
How to dismantle a U2 fan: ticket presale overview
A day after ‘Bloody Tuesday’ (as our friends at atu2.com have named it) the start of U2 tickets presales for U2.com members has turned out disastrous for many of U2′s hardcore fans. Initially it seemed the EU subscribers were hit hardest, but U.S. fans fared no better in trying to obtain the ‘hottest ticket’.
We’d like to go back in time a bit and sum up pretty much everything that has happened so far, and explain why some fans have now dubbed the official U2 website “U2.con.”
U2 tickets pre-sale chaos
Ticket pre-sales for U2.com’s (paying) members started at 10AM GMT today. Our experience with the service was less than favourable:
- One hour and 15 minutes of the online version of being put ‘on hold’
- … then being told we ‘did not come via the right URL’
- … then: sorry, page cannot be found
- … then that our ‘code is invalid or already been used’
A glance at the U2 Holland mailing list at Yahoo tells us none of its members has been able to get tickets and only one member of the U2 Flanders mailing list has.
Membership fees for U2.com are $40 for new members and $20 for those previously registered with U2′s official magazine, Propaganda.
UPDATE #1: If you are experiencing problems with your code, like we are, e-mail the Ticketmaster helpdesk, stating your code in the subject line. Some people are having luck getting their codes reset.
UPDATE #2: FOR US PRESALES, GO DIRECTLY TO TICKETMASTER. You’ll be able to enter your presale code there, without having to go through U2.com (you DID save your code, didn’t you?)
UPDATE #3: U2.com responds! (7 hours after presale fiasco)
A quick guide to signing up to U2.com
A lot of people still seem to be having problems with signing up to u2.com. We’ve been keeping an eye on the u2.com Zootopia forums and will try and address people’s questions on here, while the tech staff of u2.com seem to be preoccupied with trying to fix things.
This is not entirely fool proof/bug free, but should get you going and hopefully manages to answer some of your questions.
[Update] A few more problems addressed in this post plus an update from u2.com.
Only Went There For A Week
Just FYI, several of the U2log.com editors are on richly-deserved holidays at the moment. November was quite the month for us (and for the rest of the U2 fan community), so a little bit of R&R seems more than appropriate now that the calendar’s ticked over. Anyway, if things are a little quiet ’round here over the weekend, then you know why. Don’t worry, we’re all compulsive ‘net addicts, so if anything exciting happens, we’ll cast our fruity drinks aside and tell the cabana boy to fetch us a WiFi-enabled latop. With an SPF factor of 15 or higher. (And the subordinate editors whose time-off requests were heartlessly denied by management are all still on duty.)
Album review: U2′s Ultimate Ticking Bomb

U2’s new album got a warm reception from the U2log.com team from the moment we downloaded the first mp3 rip off Usenet. Now that we’ve forked over dollars and euro for every single available format out there, it’s time to have a closer look.
Patrick Lynch, Chris Conroy and Caroline van Oosten de Boer review How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb:
U2log.com redesigns
We’re back, we’re sporting new threads, new features and a new appetite for all things U2.
Besides the new look you’ll find a section on our homepage called “//Departures” (archive) where we’ll post links that need no explanation. We will we continue to provide news and commentary on the main part of our site. But that’s not all.
Flickr: odd name, cool features
Flickr rules. That’s why we opened our U2logtalk group there. The team at Flickr keep adding more cool features, such as their ‘Organizr’ and the new slideshow feature. Moblogging is also very easy using Flickr and we hope to put it to good use when U2 start touring.
