MTV Asia Awards
U2 have been nominated in the “Favorite Rock Act” category for the MTV Asia
Awards, alongside Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. The awards show will be held in Singapore on 2 Feb 2002, at the Singapore
Indoor Stadium. It will be hosted by Ronan Keating and Mandy Moore.

Australia’s Triple J have once again held their annual Hottest 100 countdown with tunes as voted by the general public. This year U2 only managed to elevate into the 40th position.
Home is where you’re hot
U2 have ‘swept the boards’ in Hot Press magazine’s 2001 Reader Poll, topping in no less than EIGHT categories, including Best Group. Best Live Act, Best Polling Act and ‘Love of the Year’ for their performances at Slane.
THE SHITS
U2 have not been nominated for any Brit Awards. Darlings of last year’s event, they’ve been shunned by a fickle panel who have favoured instead such mediocre punters as Robbie Williams and Bob The Builder. Here‘s what the Sun thinks. So there you go.
Getting Some
The American Music Awards were last night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Sorry to report U2 did not win any awards (well, any awards about making music). Maybe the loss at the AMA is due in fact that the lads aren’t American or maybe it’s because of N’Sync…
8 Grammy Nominations
The nominations for the Grammy Awards have been announced and U2 is up for 8:
- Record of the Year – Walk On
- Album of the Year – All That You Can’t Leave Behind
- Song of the Year – Stuck In a Moment
- Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal – Stuck In a Moment
- Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal – Elevation
- Best Rock Song – Elevation, Walk On
- Best Rock Album – All That You Can’t Leave Behind
The Moulin Rouge soundtrack, which contains the Bono/Friday/Seezer cover of ‘Children of the Revolution’ was nominated in the Best Soundtrack category.
The Award Ceremony will be held on February 27, 2002, at the Staples Center
in Los Angeles. Talking to Reuters Manager Paul McGuinness confirmed the band would be playing at the show, and that they are considering playing Europe next summer.

Bono’s raking ‘em in. This time he’s European of the Year… well, he’s one of 10. Bono won for his efforts to promote debt relief and promptly gave the 5000 Euro to Irish charity Concern.
Italian Music Awards
U2 have won two prizes at the second edition of the Italian Music Awards: Best Group and Best Album.
