Bono, Michael Stipe, Brandon Flowers, Gavin Friday, Guggi, Dave Gahan and others tell the story of Anton Corbijn, “the ultimate insider who now finds himself outside the Hollywood system” in Shadow Play: The Making of Anton Corbijn, a documentary by Josh Whiteman now making the rounds on the festival circuit.

Anton Corbijn is currently working on his second feature film, a thrilller starring George Clooney based on the novel A Very Private Gentleman. He is also making a new photo/lyrics book with Tom Waits.

It might get loud exclusive clip

Tomorrow, August 14th, the documentary “It might get loud“, featuring The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White, will hit theatres across the US (check for dates). No news on release date across Europe as yet, but U2tour.de has reported the German release will be on august 27.

The Edge to present Peter Gabriel with Ambassador of Conscience Award

Peter Gabriel is the recipient of the Amnesty International ‘Ambassador of Conscience Award’ 2008, Art for Amnesty has announced. The award will be presented to him by The Edge at a the Hard Rock Cafe in London, on September 10th, 2008.

The Ambassador of Conscience Award recognises exceptional individual leadership and witness in the fight to protect and promote human rights. In 2005, U2 and Paul McGuinness were the recipients of the award.

It’s a fun packed week for Edge as the Davis Guggenheim documentary ‘It Might Get Loud‘ in which he’s featured alongside Jimmy Page and Jack White will officially premiere at the Toronto Film festival this Friday, September 5th.

Bono and Stevie Wonder team up for Darfur Now documentary

Darfur Now is a newly released documentary about the struggles and achievements of six different individuals from inside Darfur, Sudan.

At the Darfur Now MySpace page you can, among other things, listen to Bono and Stevie Wonder’s song “Love Is In Need Of Love Today” which is used during the documentary’s end credits.

U2 Prepping Joshua Tree 20th Anniversary Edition

Only 20 years young, U2 are re-releasing The Joshua Tree to celebrate its birthday:

Though the always-exciting format details are still trickling in, we know this: new liner notes abound, and the CD/DVD combo contains five portfolio prints, whatever that might mean. The DVD supposedly sports both film from a July 1987 show at Paris’ Hippodrome and the documentary Outside It’s America, but, again, that’s tentative.

It’s set for release November 20th.

U2 in new Lanois documentary

Not to be outdone by Jacknife Lee, U2′s other collaborator Daniel Lanois has a documentary cooking.

This new film, ‘Here Is What Is’ contains footage of Lanois working with Eno and U2 in Morocco, as well as material shot with Emmylou Harris, Garth Hudson, Willie Nelson, Sinead O’Connor and Billy Bob Thornton.

‘Here Is What Is’ premieres at the Toronto Film Festival this September. A preview of the film can be seen on Daniel Lanois’ website.

Peter and the Wolf documentary

Ireland’s RTE 1 screened a half hour documentary on the making of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ on Monday, January 5th. There’s a brief review of the documentary on gavinfriday.com. We expect to be able to offer some screencaps and footage next week.
