Playing Wolf
Bono and The Edge were in playful spirits at the “Peter and the Wolf” exhibit launch in Dublin last week, as these photos show. At the launch, Gavin Friday explained to the media how Bono and his daughters got involved in the Peter and the Wolf project.
“I was actually out in Bono’s for lunch and the kids were going mental as kids do on a Sunday,” said Friday. “I had a rough mix of the recording and I put it on to see if the children liked it and if they related to it — and they all loved it, especially my godchild Eve. And two months later, Bono, Jordan and Eve were painting away for the book.”
Bono attends Wolf launch
Bono, Gavin Friday and Marie Donnelly (Irish Hospice) attended the ‘invitation only’ launch of Bono’s Peter and the Wolf paintings exhibition at City Hall in Dublin on Friday evening. Introduced by Barry Devlin, Gavin thanked everybody involved, as did Marie Donnelly. Bono then read from a prepared speech.
Perfect Circle of Friends
Bono and Gavin Friday attended an exclusive after-show party thrown by REM in Dublin Wednesday night. According to the Irish Mirror, Bono and Gavin partied with the members of REM, Michael Stipe’s family, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, and several other close friends at a private location.
“It was quite a small intimate affair,” a source told the Mirror. “They stayed there until the early hours of Thursday morning and seemed to have a lot of fun.”
Out for Art
The Edge and Bono attended the opening of artist Charlie Whisker’s exhibition at Solomon Gallery in Dublin last night. Whisker has contributed illustrations to several U2 album designs and is the artist who created the metal gates at Bono’s home. Whisker is also the man to whom Gavin Friday and Guggi turned to learn to paint when the Virgin Prunes ended. In January 1988, Whisker, Guggi, Bono and Gavin showed their work in an exhibition called ‘Four Artists, Many Wednesdays’.

You Two Out on the Town
Last week Bono enjoyed a “tete-a-tete for a good hour or so” with Tom Jones at Lillies Bordello, reports the Sunday Mirror. Jones was in Dublin for a show at the Point Theatre and ran into Bono at the exclusive night club, where he was partying with Guggi and a few other friends. Whether Bono and the man known as “The Voice” and “The Tiger” exchanged tips for looking good in tight pants is unknown.
Elsewhere in Dublin, The Edge took in the Radiohead show with Bono at the Olympia Saturday night. In past interviews, Edge has said that Radiohead is one band that influences U2′s work.

The drummer talks
Larry Mullen guest presented Irish designer Lainey Keogh’s collection at the Brown Thomas Fashion Show in Dublin last night.
Many eyebrows were raised when, asked by host Cat Deely what U2 were up to, Larry answered – live on Irish television: “Same shit, different decade”. He seemed embarrassed at the crowd’s response.
Larry continued to reveal he had not been invited to the Golden Globe Award show.
The male celeb models, including The Edge were led by Gavin Friday, who walked down the stage to the end of the catwalk, unzipped his pants and kneeled as a 6ft inflatable spire, with red light on top popped up from between his legs. Edge exuded cool, while Guggi finished the set with his 5 sons – including toddler in pram.
