U2 played ‘Magnificent’ and talked to Pat Kenny on RTE’s Late Late Show on Friday evening. It was Kenny’s last time hosting the show. He hosted the show for ten years, having taken over from Gay Byrne in 1999. U2 brought some farewell gifts for the host: a rare ‘Music Rising’ Gibson Les Paul guitar and a pair of shades. Ten years earlier they had seen Gay Byrne off with a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Bono revealed that early on in their career the band had a meeting discussing the possible firing of their manager Paul McGuinness since he seemed unable to get the band a van for transportation. As they were debating this in Dublin’s ‘Captain America’s‘ restaurant a man sat next to them approached them. He said he couldn’t help overhearing their discussion and he thought they were making a big mistake. He knew McGuinness and thought highly of him. When Bono asked the man for his name, he said he was Louis Walsh, later manager of Westlife and now known as a judge on British television show The X-Factor.

In between some frankly eye-roll-worthy bits of mutual [ comedy pause ] admiration, there’s good stuff about Clooney’s work in Darfur and Bono’s lasting influence on celebrity do-good-ery in the 00′s.

Time Magazine has also published a piece on Clooney written by Bono in which he states:

“George Clooney is a dangerous man. He needs to be watched… to be monitored… He’s a new kind of American radical… a post-’60s, post-obvious, post-postmodern radical, not the left-leaning Hollywood bleeding-heart do-gooder that many think. Oh, no…”

He had nipples on his batsuit, but.

Ladies… hold on to your knickers hats. It’s Bono vs The Clooney on CNN next week. Tune in to hear Bono ask: “You recently slept with someone that I have a crush on … tell me about that?”

Clooney is being honored by Time magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Time asked Bono to write the profile, and CNN shot the interview for a Time 100/Anderson Cooper 360’ Special titled “The World’s Most Influential People.” It will air on CNN on May 1 at 11:00 p.m. ET.

Interviewed in Fez for Portugese television, Bono states the band will play Portugal in Summer 2010. And: “If you want to change the world, you change people, if you want to change people, you start with the heart. If you want to change people’s hearts… music!” Also: Adam’s apparently “married to the music”. Sorry, ladies!
