Term “U2-ESQUE” coined Australian band

Australian band Powderfinger have drawn massive praise on their new album Odyssey Number Five and, suddenly, several comparisons to U2. A recent article had their drummer urging a journalist to listen to a great new track which turned out to be Beautiful Day, not one of their own.
From today’s EG in Melbourne’s Age newspaper, a review by Jo Roberts: Whereas Internationalist (Powderfinger’s last album) was a rawer, more rock outing — and I dare say songs from it will remain the live show favorites of many fans — songs on Odyssey Number Five have equal power, but in the vein of U2, drawing the muscle more from atmosphere and beauty, and moving you in a way that goes much deeper than Internationalist.*snip* Female trio Tiddas add a lovely touch to the U2-esque Thrilliology — it’s hard to hear a chorus pedal and think otherwise these days…
