Mark Pusok writes in to say: U2 has a U.S. #1 song! Yes, “Beautiful Day” is at number one on the U.S. Billboard charts…..as the #1 DANCE song in America! Apparently the song has been played very heavily in U.S. clubs over the past week or so This chart will be updated within the next 24 hours and it may change before anyone gets to see U2’s latest chart topper.

PUSHING THE ENVELOPE?
Reader Carrie sent us the following tip: Yanks might want to be aware that, if they asked Ticketmaster to mail their U2 concert tickets, the tickets might show up in an envelope with an innocuous return address. This envelope looks like junk mail and could easily get tossed — which is what I almost did. The return address on my ticket envelope was “Phone Services” with an address in West Virginia. There was absolutely no indication that it had been sent by Ticketmaster, and it had a window, which made it look like a bill (probably to prevent mail theft). Anyway, take heed.

EXISTENTIALIST IDEAS
Who’s on Howie B’s mobile? A question asked by Mixmag in March 99. Says Howie: “Bono, he’s a linguist. If I’ve got any problems, or historical things to be sorted out, or exsistentialist ideas to discuss, he’s the man. I often ring him at five in the morning. The last thing I spoke to him about was shagging horses. He laughed. That was his reaction, that was enough.”
OFFICIAL: U2 PRICES LESS IMPORTANT
OFFICIAL: U2 PRICES LESS IMPORTANT THAN BRITNEY’S BOOBS
The Edmonton Journal has a piece on www.PetitonOnline.com, where the narky U2 ticket price petition is. The article says the U2 petition has been signed by less people than one urging Britney Spears to wear more sensible outfits, but a lot more than one about mullets.
BLINK AND YOU MISSED IT
BLINK AND YOU MISSED IT
Wednesday 0:10 AM: Just a minute ago we tried to enter the competiton on U2.com to win tickets for the London Astoria show. This is the message we got:
Sorry, this 3rd U2.COMpetition can only be played on tuesday 30.01.2001. and thurday 01.02.2001. If you have entered yesterday (which was the first set of questions), please come back tomorrow (for the last set of questions).
a. The competition rules do not mention anything about ‘only’ played on Tuesday and Thursday.
b. It IS Tuesday, if we’re talking GMT.
c. Judging from our ‘discuss’ posts, the competition was closed before it even started.
Wednesday 10.33 AM GMT+1… the competition is now ‘open’. Someone woke up, or changed their minds.

THE BIG ISSUE
U2.com reports that U2 are featured in this month’s Big Issue (UK magazine sold and produced by the homeless). What music are they listening to? Edge namechecks Radiohead‘s Kid A (‘a few prog-rock moments but you can forgive them that’) and Andrea Corr ‘s voice while Bono recommends Richard Ashcroft, late of The Verve and JJ72 who ‘have got something going.’
