RTE reports on ‘safety expert’ Paul Wertheimer’s claim that U2’s plans to have standing room only at the front of the stage at the concerts is dangerous. Reporter Ben Kelly speaks with Arthur Fogel, [ real audio link ] President of the Touring Section of U2’s promoters, SFX.
“U2 and SFX would never put on a show that was unsafe. What Mr Weretimer doesn’t know is that while it is true that a GA capacity on the floor is probably 300/400 larger than if it was a reserved area, we could have charged a lot more for reserved seats. It’s not more profitable. And done properly, adhering to local regulations, it’s not unsafe. Mr Weretimer’s statements are irresponsible.”
