BONO AT G8 FOOTAGE
We have a tiny snippet of Real Video from Dutch television, of Bono meeting the Russian President Putin and British PM Blair in Genoa, with Bob Geldof. Commentary is in Dutch and they misquote Bono. We prefer to give you what he said: ‘It’s okay banging your fist on the table. It’s not okay to put your fist in the face of an opponent, whether they are protesters or police. [ … ] I don’t think violence is ever right, but anger is understandable when facing the obscenity of the ever widening gap of inequality on the planet between the haves and the have nots.’
Bono called his newest born “a thug”, and now, perhaps, we know why. Little John Abraham came out into the world when Chopper called. Celebrity thug Mark Brandon “Chopper” Read has more in common with Bono than you might imagine.
A small selection of photos taken from the stands in Paris, night 2.
Didn’t we just report this? Ah, but there are new twists afoot. YouTwo.net reports another batch of tour details, including specific dates & places and the certain-to-be-distressing news that Elevation may not continue beyond its return to the U.S. They claim their sources are in Principle Management, but if you’re inclined to doubt, we’ll see an official announcement by the end of August.
On the cheerier side, they note that a “special gig” will be held somewhere in the U.S. in mid-October… is this the much-rumored “requests show”?
( We can support YouTwo.net’s information. In Cologne a crew member confirmed that although plans ‘kept changing’ NO gigs were planned after the 3rd (USA) leg, as the band are apparently eager to record again. Crew members have in fact already taken on other jobs. However… during the 2nd night in Paris, Bono did tell the Paris audience ‘…nous reviendrons’, meaning ‘we will return’. Of course he didn’t say WHEN. Ed. )
Oh MY. Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, we present to you the funniest cover of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” ever, by Canadian comedy duo The Doo Wops. And yes, it’s even funnier than Eugene Mirman. Big-ups to Paul for bringing it to our attention…

Goss-list Popbitch keeps its all-seeing eye on U2, this week offering a pre-tour snippet:
The Irish Murphia may not be as close as some think: when Ronan Keating recently suggested to U2 that he support them in the US, they only just waited until he was out of earshot before bursting out laughing.
