When it comes right down to it, this is another fluff piece — weren’t the 80s nice, didn’t POP suck, etc. — of the kind we’re all tired of reading. We expect better writing and more trenchant insight from one of the flagships of alternative journalism. Hell, rag on the band all you want, we don’t care: just be smart about it, and don’t parrot the opinions of hundreds of ignorant newspaper columnists around the globe.

Oh yeah, and spell “penance” correctly, please.
