Irish Times: No further talk of compromise as U2 defends its studio.
The day before, at the completion of the first day of submissions, U2’s public relations company issued a statement which said U2 would “definitely consider moving to somewhere in the vicinity should a suitable property be offered as an alternative”. However, the planning hearing yesterday continued to hear submissions from U2’s legal team and other objectors to the proposed demolition of buildings overlooking the water.
Time marches on…
So, does this mean they can convert the studio to a theme restaurant like Hard Rock Cafe? Obviously once they tear down the wharehouse they can errect a big homage to U2 by building something like:
Hanover the Quay for Space Restaurant
(play on the word Handover)
Han-Over-Heels
(Shoe store)
Hanover Studio 54
(Discotheque)
Embrace the Future
(Gift Shop specializing in perfumes)
U2 Point
(Scenic spot)
I think Dublin has been very good to U2 over the years…this is the least they can do. They have rights to graze sheep in the city park for cryin out loud!!! What an honor. Not to mention they don’t pay any income taxes this year…

All it needs is a fancy paint job like the U2 wall over at Windmill Lane studios then it wouldn’t look ugly. 😉

Ha…fancy paint job…ha ha. More like a messy paint job. If this was a debate over Windmill’s survival…they’d definitely trash the wall or suffer the consequences of complete demolition. I think another kind of compromise is in order. Like still having their studio but having it rebuilt to “fit in”. Is having your brand new studio next to or tucked behind a brand new french restaurant so bad??? :o9
