Canoe.ca features a transcript of an on line chat with singer songwriter Bruce Cockburn (whose lyric ‘Says he’s gonna kick the darkness till it bleeds daylight ‘ Bono poached for God Part II). A fan asks Bruce: I am currently reading the book “Walk On – The Spiritual Journey of U2” In it, the author mentions the faith that you have and the discussions in years past that you have had with Bono regarding the how to show your faith in a materialistic and self-centred rock world. Is this true?

Dance Van Dyk
The Phoenix New Times interviews ueber-DJ Paul van Dyk about his album ‘The Politics of Dancing’ ($: UK/USA) and they write: On Politics, van Dyk proves again his unparalleled skill at adapting contemporary music to the unique qualities of electronica. He subtly shifts the haunting groove of iio’s “Rapture” and then distills U2’s “Elevation” to its electronic essence.
No. 40.
Australia’s Triple J have once again held their annual Hottest 100 countdown with tunes as voted by the general public. This year U2 only managed to elevate into the 40th position.
In bed with U2
Acts of Volition, a Canadian blog and fellow nominee in the Bloggies, reviews U2’s Elevation DVD, in bed: ‘The Edge used the set list as an opportunity to parade an amazing set of classic guitars including a full-bodied Gretsch, a pearl Telecaster, Edge’s classic Gibson Explorer, a Godin, a beautiful clear woodgrain finish Stratocaster, and a 12-string Richenbacher that The Edge kicks off the stage.’ Check the site’s comments for the lucky lady who got to see Bono play piano in the Savoy in London AND got close to the Edge. His arse, anyway.
Slated
Slate’s David Plotz writes ‘U2 – Their vague majesties of rock’. And doesn’t ‘get’ the lyrics: U2 is perhaps the world’s vaguest band. If a U2 song isn’t written in the first person, it is penned to an unnamed, indistinct “you.” Instead of stories or wordplay, they rely solely on fuzzy imagery. Old Brats
The NME is repeating some video material from the 2001 Brat awards, including an interview with Bono who had just received the ‘Godlike Genius award’ and apparently celebrated with a few jars. Enjoy. He appears twice in this piece and Fatboy Slim talks about him too. [thanks to popartist for the info]
Grammy Nominees CD
U2’s Walk On is featured on the Grammy Nominees 2002 CD which can now be pre-ordered from Amazon.com. U2, and Alicia Keys are now confirmed to play at the Grammy Awards telecast. Says Recording Academy President/CEO Michael Greene: “U2 and Alicia Keys are emblematic of the diversity and limitless talent of our nominees and the powerful music that they create.” Um, yeah. And they, like, rawk.

MSG? Good For Me!
This one’s for the tactful young gentleman commenting on how “up-to-date” we are in the prior thread. MTV2 will be playing a 60-minute edit of one of the October Madison Square Garden shows (whether it’s the 24th, the 25th, or the 27th, we know not) on Feb. 2nd at 7:30 PM. That time should apply to all American time zones, but you’ll definitely want to check your local listings. How’s that for hot, fresh info, eh? (And who cares if we jacked it from @U2? That’s the glory of weblogging, people. And speaking of which… cough, cough.)
