U2 are nominated in an obscene amount of categories for the 2002 Meteor Ireland Music Awards which will be handed out later tonight in Dublin’s Point Depot in a show hosted by comedian Patrick Kielty.

Meteor Awards are voted for by the general public. Elton John, Morcheeba, Sinead O’Connor, David Gray, JJ72, Emmylou Harris, Altan, Mark McCabe, Ash and Gabrielle will be performing. The show will be aired on RTE Network 2 this Thursday at 9pm.

The special Irish Industry Award to Paul Mc Guinness was presented by Chris Blackwell and they showed a 10-min VT on Paul’s story with the band. U2’s last award, ‘best rock band’ was presented by Dave Stewart.
