Can’t Stand The Heat

The Kitchen, U2’s nightclub in the basement of their Clarence Hotel, is closing its doors.

We know it’s sad that 24 people have been laid off, but we just can’t stop giggling at how nu-metal Adam looks in this photo (taken at the club’s opening in ’94. That’s Eno in the middle). Are we bad people?

  21. Actually that photo was taken during the photo shoots for the Passengers album. There are lots of “dress-up” pics of U2 & Eno from those shoots, and this is just one of them. MTV did a brief news segment on the actual opening of the Kitchen back in the day. Bono still had his ZOO-era haircut that night. For whatever it’s worth.

  33. Adam is significantly taller than the rest of the band, but you’ll notice he rarely looks that way in any of the photos. I’m sure photographers are told to jump through some interesting hoops to make sure everyone’s on the same footing.

  43. Am I the only one that thinks this pic is absolutely precious? I love it when the boys dress up; alas, this shot only makes me long for the days of “Smug Bono”. Of course, I will admit that this picture does emphasize a seemingly uni-brow quality to Edge and Larry…mmmm, oh-so-sexy.

  51. Does Larry ever smile? It seems he’s permanently pissed off! Maybe it’s the hat that’s annoying him? I don’t think I’ve seen him smile since the Joshua Tree era! LOL. And Adam, pet, that beard is tragic. 😀
