U2 may’ve hitched themselves to the wrong horse. Martin Scorcese’s Gangs Of New York, which our boys are alternately rumored to be writing a full score and/or original songs for, is still encountering various woes a mere three months from its projected release date (which has been pushed back repeatedly in the past). It’s now said that Miramax honcho Harvey Weinstein wants a new ending (The New York Times Online requires free registration). For a full diary of the film’s troubles, try Corona Coming Attractions; you might also be interested in the discussion going on at Metafilter (but please, try not to flame the non-fans).

Interesting to note that the film’s co-writer, Jay Cocks, is the same fellow who wrote the 1987 cover story on U2 for Time magazine — and covered them for that same magazine for about 10 years after that.

Anybody see Jay and Silent Bob strike back??? The line about the internet being a place where little nerds get on a site and rip people about their music and movies is so clear now it’s sad… I didn’t bother to log in with them, but God I’d love to flame those pricks…
