Pimm Jal de la Parra 1966-2002

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our friend Pimm Jal de la Parra, author of “U2 Live A Concert Documentary“, “David Bowie – The Concert Tapes”, and founder-editor of U2 magazine “Collectormania”.

Pimm Jal was known and respected in U2 and Bowie fan communities world wide. He loved people. People loved him. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family and friends.

I know it aches
how your heart it breaks
and you can only take so much

  1. How old was he? By his style of writing I’d have said he was still reasonably young. Thirty-ish

  7. Very sad news. I met the guy last year at a few Elevation concerts! He was an interesting fellow. I wanted to get in touch with him after concerts, but never found the email adderess again. I was really looking forward for another release of the great book as the lenegdary “U2 Live – a concert documentary” was. I know many fans who were expecting an updated version.

We’ll miss him and his talent. Rest in Peace.

  9. I am thoroughly shocked and saddened. Pimm’s book was one of the few worthy of the band. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

  15. I’m kind of without words, but I’d like to add that besides his wonderful book and the hard work he put into it, he was a lovely person. He’d talk enthousiastically and very passionatly about a lot of issues. He’s friendly and warm. Don’t know if he believed in angels, but if he did, he sleeps with them tonight. Ik zal je missen.

  17. I would like to thank Pimm and share my admiration for him. I grew reading all the U2 books I could get my hands on and his is wonderful. He got to live out a dream of mine….to follow the greatest band of all time and document the live experiences that make music worthwhile.

  21. His book took me into
    the wonderful world of
u2 live show and live bootlegs.Without that
i would be only a “normal” u2 fan
    not an hard-die fan.
    Thanks PJ.
We’ll me miss you very much.

  23. It is hard to believe Primm is gone. I never met him, but felt the care he had through the work he helped bring out. I spent the better part of the early 90s buried in his book looking up information confirming trades.

  25. Oh God, I don’t know what to say. I remember finding issue #4 of Collectormania at a Tower Records one day and falling in love with it. I wrote a letter to Pimm and he wrote back, which I did not expect at all! He was very sweet. He sent me pamphlets about the ‘zine to hand out at a U2 show, and even thanked me in the first edition of the Live Documentary. I was blown away by his work on that book, and I use that as a 1976-1994 show reference more than I ever use the Internet.

I can’t believe he is gone, and at such a young age, too. =(

  27. Thanks, Pimm, for the greatest U2 book I’ve ever read. I can’t count anymore how many hours I spent with this book and the Collectormania magazines during the last 11 years. It will be nearly impossible to find someone who will continue his work – and the book – in his perfect style and way.
The first letter I received from Pimm – in 1992 during the ZOO-TV-Tour – will be hang-up on my U2-wall for whole the time U2 will exist.
You will stay in my minds, Pimm! Lift my days, light up my nights!

  29. Pimm’s book was one of the inspirations for the discography I tackled. I’ve realized just how difficult it can be to be that complete and that informed. I never had an opportunity to meet Pimm, or even converse with him, but he’s definitely left his mark among u2 fans. My condolences and thoughts are with his family, and any of those lucky enough to have called him a friend. Aaron

  31. I don’t know what to say really. I wasn’t expecting this one. I think, as U2 fans, we have a sort of bond with those who have come anywhere near close to the band and have been able to enlighten us even in the slightest bit about the lads. But we also have another, special bond; a brotherhood even, with those who have taken us consistently deeper. People like Bill Flanagan, and certainly Pimm. I could only dream, if/when my music takes off, of having such wonderful people come so close to me, and allow people to see a side of me that they wouldn’t normally see, in such a brilliant light. 99% of what we know of the boys we owe to this “brotherhood”.

Thank you Pimm; I don’t know what it was, so it must have been art! 🙂

  37. The great efforts which Pimm undertook were selfless and not done to gain any recognition or popularity…it was a gift given back to the band, and more importantly, his family of fellow fans. His work was always thorough and well researched, and now more than ever, we will realize how much of a tremendous contribution a single fan has made in the lives of so many others. I had the fortune of meeting Pimm during a visit to Dublin (Zooropa ’93), and I can gladly say that his ambition and determination has certainly served to push me in some of my own music-related endeavors. Rest in Peace, gentle Brother…you will be missed by so many.

  41. I never got to meet him although I think I did exchange an e-mail or two with him way back in the stone ages…I’m very sad to hear this and he was so young! He certainly was the fan’s fan with the book and Collectormania. He truly was a U2 documentarian, not only just compiling a list of tour dates but all the research and descriptions for nearly each and every show and appearance. Just about all the major U2 site webmasters, and U2 fans in general, should be forever thankful for his efforts in print and in the earlier days of the ‘net…his work lives on… 🙂

  43. what a shock.
it cannot be described what this man did for all of us..
before the elevation tour, before i had any chance to make contact with the band, this man was the one who showed it all to me. hours and hours, days, weeks, months, years… my nose stuck in the concert documentary book, memorizing each story, each night.
it got us all thru, didnt it?

he and his words will be sorely missed.

  47. I never met Pimm. I wish I had. All I know of Pimm is the picture of him left by his book: that of a dedicated, passionate, and hard-working man and fan. And this thread adds to that picture the fact that he touched a great many fans, whether he knew them or not. Thank you, Pimm, and God bless. Our prayers are with your family and friends: be well.

  49. I have read his U2 and David Bowie books. I thought he was the coolest to be not much older than me, and know so damn much about 2 of my favorite artists. In fact, the first time I went to Holland, I sent a postcard to him while in Amsterdam with the hostel I was staying at as a return address. I never got a reply or anything, and I possibly didn’t have the right address for him at the time. It would have been nice to have met the guy. I think it’s a damn shame that he is no longer among us. Cheers Pimm!

  61. I took collectormania issue 4 (1991) with me on the train this morning and read his pieces on meeting Bono and his review of the final Love Town show. These articles, and the entire collectormania, show exactly his kindness and his remarkable dedication.

  69. The Concert Documentary book is an incredible piece of work. Many times I have though that as a child I may have been standing on some street corner and a few buldings away U2 could have been soundchecking for a gig and I would have not even known the band existed. It’s funny how time can provoke such thoughts. Thanks Pimm.

  83. ~In the stillness of the evening, when the sun has had its day… I heard your voice whispering… come away now~

Shocked, touched, saddened… All these words come to mind, but none quite have a deep enough meaning. I have only known PJ to be an incredibly charismatic and gentle person. An excellent writer, and a great conversationalist. You’ll be missed PJ, no U2 concert, not Bowie concert will ever be quite the same again without you.

  85. Pimm had great plans with his U2 book and even with his Bowie book. Therefore he contacted me to work together on my website. This will no longer happen. Pimm, you’re a great guy and I’m really gonna miss the chit-chat about Bowie, U2 and good music. You can count on me that the Concert Tapes section on my site will be a worthy dedication to the nicest, coolest and greatest musiclover and man I know. Damn boy, why? Always in my mind!

  91. For about as long as there has been a U2 fan community, there has been Pimm in it. And for as long as Pimm has been in it, he has made significant and lasting contributions to it. There are a few certain people that you think are just always going to be there. Pimm was one of those people and his presence will be very missed. It’s my hope and belief that he’s in a better place, and now his tired body can rest, surrounded in love, warmth and light. “I’ve conquered my past. The future is here at last. I stand at the entrance to a new world I can see. The ruins to the right of me will soon have lost sight of me. Love rescue me.” In The Name Of Love,

  93. Pimm’s devotion to documenting ‘the best band in the world’ will never be rivaled in the eyes of millions of U2 fans, like myself. We all owe him a great debt of thanks. He was one of the few proud devotees who did right by U2 as a rock group, and his committment to getting every detail and nuance of their concert scenes right still puts most professional magazine rock writers to shame. Pimm, your dedication to the fandom and spirit of U2 will be missed more than words can say, and I am deeply saddened by your passing. God speed and may you always rest in peace.

  97. We’re shocked when we heard from a close friend of Pimm that he’s no longer with us. I knew him for years, but not personal, but I knew he was a special person and we really admirred his work. The concert documentary is used almost dayly by us. A few months back we came personally in touch with Pimm and started to help him accomplishing an updated book of the U2 concert documentary. He was very grateful and it was a great pleasure to “work” for him. We will miss him a lot.
We want to give all his family and friends strength and love in this difficult time and terrible loss of a great person…

  119. I’m sorry to hear about this man’s passing. I’ve seen some of his pictures of U2 and they were some of the greatest pictures of the band I ever saw. He had such great insight of the band and knew how to capture it. My prayers are with his family and all associated with U2 – including the fans.

  121. How devastating to recieve this news from Jack today. Pimm, only this week I had planned to send you something we had talked about nearly 20 years ago
and now I am so sorry that I didn’t share it with you sooner. To me, you will always be that incredible “Bowie Kid” who so welcomed help on your Concert Tapes book and who was so quick to share his collection with a committed fellow fan. I only find solace in remembering how much you
enjoyed that Bowie tape I sent you from “The New Boston Garden” as you so uniquely referred to it. God Bless You Pimm, you are a light that should have shown for so many more years. Please, someone out there, tell me that he didn’t suffer.

  123. This was very sad news….
I’ve used that book (David Bowie ‘The Concert Tapes’) so much in my search for Bowie recordings. Now I’ll think of Pimm everytime I’ll open that book (and that’s still pretty often!).

  129. I only ever read the U2 book, but it changed my life. From being an ordinary fan, this encyclopedia continually amazed me by the scale of the writer’s obvious love for the band, the history of the band, and brought me to a new level – not of devotion, but of understanding.

    Your legacy is strong. RIP.

  133. I have been a U2 fan for 11 years. I only have one book of U2. Pimm Jals. Simply because I havent needed to have any other books.I think this speaks a lot of the book that Pimm Jal gave us, and also his gift to us let us relive the concerts that we went to or to experience the past before we were U2 fans. Pimm Jal gave us a wonderful account of U2’s past, and we wont forget him in the future.

  137. Each night my group plays a gig, I open the U2 Live book and have a quiet moment to myself and my inspiration for being in a band, U2… It clears my mind and relaxes me, but more importantly, it shows that everybody starts from somewhere in the music biz, and U2 weren’t always the biggest band, but have always been the best… It has been a huge part of my peace of mind, and has helped my unbelievably through countless shows… I couldn’t have thanked the man enough, we in Glide and Affliction (my two bands) are terribly sorry to hear of his passing… I bet he would want someone to continue his work…

  139. I bought the first edition of U2: Concert Documentary in 1994 and found it to be the pen-ultimate source for U2 concerts and setlists and even refer to it to this day. I sent him a letter indicating how impressed I was with the compendium. He wrote a very kind letter to me back and I was touched by his response. After the brief Popmart edition I was always wondering if he would update that editoin. Too bad he is gone. He will be missed. RIP

  153. I remember the first Collectormania I picked up was in 1985. In a era where mass media hadn’t hit,(Interent, etc) it was the only way next to Propaganda to hear about U2. His contribution to U2 fandom was huge. Being a U2 fan will not be the same.

His book on Bowie concerts changed my life and contributed much towards the passion I have for music to this day. It’s worth remembering that to write the books he did he must have felt this same passion and so what a great life he had. Thoughts to his family……

The lasting testament to this great man were all your responses and PJ’s great talent of allowing us to help him write his great books on Bowie and U2. I think it is amazing how one fan has touched so many. Most people didn’t even know him (including myself), but surely we appreciate all his hard work and dedication, and from hearing from the people who HAVE met him, he sounded like a really great person. My prayers and thoughts go to his family too. 36 is entirely too young to pass away.

  193. I’m very saddened to hear the news of Pimm Jal’s passing. I always thought one of these
days I’ll do a fanzine or website but I lacked the committment that PJ made to his book
project. We had exchanged several letters when he was researching the U2 Live book
and I sent him photos and other materials. I was (pleasantly) shocked to see my name
in the Thank You acknowledgements. Thank You Pimm Jal for letting me live vicariously
through you. I regret that we never got to meet in person. My thoughts and prayers to

Collectormania was one of my favorite U2 magazines…I was lucky enough to find 3 of them on the stands (I looked for it everytime I went to Tower, even though it was sometimes years between issues). Pimm was also nice enought to credit me in his concert documentary book for a review I sent in for a Zoo Tv show I went to in 1992.

  201. Pimm was an excellent person, with a brilliant dedication to wonderful music…much of my knowledge and appreciation of U2 came from reading “U2 Live…” from cover to cover, over and over, when I was 15. God bless you, Pimm. You will be missed.

  205. I’ll never forget reading for the first time your lucid account of your first ever Bowie show. You put some real magic on the page, there, and I was jealous as hell! Rest in peace, friend.

  215. I’m immensely shocked and sad by the terrible news. I’ve been lucky enough to meet Pimm several times over the last few years, he’s always been a source of inspiration to me. On behalf of all the fans he had named “the bunch of crazy French people”, I offer my sincere condolences to Pimm’s family and friends.

  221. I discover the Collectormania fanzine in 1992 and was immediately impressed by its contents. In a time when I was craving for U2 information (I’d just become a fan the year previously) I was stunned by reviews of Achtung Baby tapes, cover songs or U2’s single discography. But most of all I enjoyed the concert reviews. U2 Live: A Concert Documentary only strengthened my passion for U2 and hearing their them live. Thank you Pimm for igniting this never-ending passion. Your enthusiasm converted me (and probably many others). May you rest in peace.

  225. Pimm Jal. Sweet, gentle, modest, friendly. Extremely funny, very intelligent, incredibly talented. Memories of the shows we went to together, the countless indonesian meals we shared, the discussions we had about life, love, music, films, soccer, anything at all. Drinking tea, wine or tequila, sometimes being serious, most times absolutely not.
He loved bringing people together, initiated friendships and, in our case, even love. We can’t begin to imagine our lives without him.

A man can die twice: once when he passes away, once when he is forgotten. Our great friend has died. We will make sure it doesn’t happen again.

  233. He has achieved what not many of us will achieve in life: to become unforgettable and loved even by people who have not come to know him personally. There has hardly been a week gone by since ’94 without me reading parts of his great book, again and again. For me, coming from a booksellers family, his book is the evidence that even in times of the internet, printed books will never vanish. And so won’t the memory of PJ. My thoughts are with his family and friends, I wish them all the strenght they need now. God bless you Pimm!

  259. I know Pimm since his book on Bowie. I remember reading in this book before I went to bed so many nights. It was a miracle on how he could get all these details together! The time he had put in it with so much devotion! I had the chance to meet Pimm different times in the eighties at the Bowie-fanclub conventions in Holland! He was such a nice guy, unbelievable that he had to go already! Rest in peace!

  261. What a sad news. I loved the Collectormania magazine very much. In a time when it was more difficult to get information of your favourite band, it was always a joy to receive a new issue of this magazine. I think Pimm did a fantastic job with publishing that magazine and his outstanding book. Pimm thanks.

  277. I remember the first time I read an issue of Collectormania, and being instantly hooked. Pimm’s passion for U2 and their music burned through the pages. The Live Documentary Book is my all time favorite U2 book, and I have many. Goodbye Pimm, thank you for bringing such pleasure in my life.

  279. It is with great shock and sadness I read today of Pimm’s passing…and at so young an age. I’ve heard it said that God takes those whom He loves when they are young, as in His love He would spare them any more of the world’s pain. Though the world for Pimm must have been a wonderful place, because so many loved him, and will always love him. He must have been a truly extrordinary man to affect so many this way.

I never met him, or emailed him, but I love his work. And I am really surprised at the depth of my own reaction. I will never forget the day in the spring of 1995 that I discovered an issue of Collectormania on the stands at a local bookstore, and that directly and immediately inspired me to take my first trip to Dublin (though I had been a fan since the early 80’s, and knew Propaganda for years, before then, I hadn’t cared to go.)

His work has made the world a magical, wonderful place, and inspired all of us in the fan community, even those who never knew him. My beloved, battered Concert Documentary has an honored place on my shelf, (along with a printout of the ’96 Irish Peace Accord, and John Waters’ “Race of Angels”)–and now it will never leave.

Sleep, sleep tonight, may your dreams be realized.

I remember at the age of 13 reading for the very first time Bowie The Concert Tapes, and it was that very book that started me off collecting tapes. The book has always been a constant referance to me over these years.
I liked Pimms style of writing, so personal, and when I wrote to him when I was 13, I was surprised that he answered my letter, I expected it to be ignored.
    A great shame. RIP.

  317. I met Pimm outisde Wembley in August 1993. I had read Collectormania and to me he was a ‘legend’ or sorts, so I was very excited to finally meet him. We exchanged a few letters and I even had a photo published in the U2 Book. Thank you for giving me hours of happiness reading through the U2 Concert book and many issues of Collectormania.

  321. Last year I attended the U2 gig in Munich and when I left the building I was told Pim was there too, very close to my place. I felt sorry to miss the opportunity to compliment him on his wonderful book and exchange a few words. His work is as passionate as rigorous at the same time, which is something very hard to achieve for a great fan as he surely was. His unmissable short-stories from every U2 concert will keep him alive forever for all U2 fans. Thanks Pim

  327. Long before I had the internet (let alone seeing U2 live), Pimm’s book was one of my few resources for information. I was truely amazed how many shows this guy had been to and when I wrote to him I was even more suprised he wrote back with lots of freebies and a message of hope that I to one day would also see them live. I couldn’t believe how generous he was and we wrote to each other a few times. So it came as a great shock to read about his passing, I was hoping that my eyes were deceiving me but that was not to be. RIP Pimm.

  367. Dear Pimm Jal,

I bet you read this from up there some day. It was a very heavy funeral yesterday. But there were also allot of funny moments and anecdotes told about your life. We worked together on a view of your fathers films, never forget how you gave me a bole of chicken soup on the set, but I told you I was a vegetarian! I asked you why these soup, you told me; Chicken is not an animal? It is a bird! You can eat that? I was very glad you made me some peanut soup later.

Never forget your smile, love Alfred.

I hope you have finally found the peace you were looking for. I’m sure I’ll see you up there when my time has come. And then once again we’ll say: Mot je een knal! Eikel! With much love till then.

  375. collectormania was an inspiration for me collecting live u2 from the first funny one I picked up in a tower records here in san francsco in 87 on the joshua tree tour. I traded a few times back in the 80’s with Pimm and man that was a tape list, he had quite an archive with which to create the book. I still keep that tape list and have the collecting disease 15 years later, and I will still always use “the book”. RIP Pimm (and Brian K.for those who knew him)..Its been a tough year for U2 fans

  383. How sadly to hear the news that Pimm Jal has died.
I met Pimm Jal in the 80’s and had contact more or less contact over all last years.
The last two weeks i wanted to send him a card for thanking him for the book he gave me. Many years ago i send him some material for his book, he was still looking for that material to give it back, he was still finding. Maybe for that reason he offered me the book (U2 encyclopedie).
Now i don’t have to send him a card, but i wish his family and friens all the best!
I will remember Pimm Jal as an inspired man.

  391. Unbelievable, Pim. I just received news from u2.com and thought “oh, thats nice, some new videos, and now this. Ive known Pim from school in the 80s, we spent our days in Rotterdam in ’87 (still have your tape of both gigs by the way), we went to see Rattle&Hum 4 nights in a row, argueing whether this was the end for U2. And now this, 36 and passed away. Havent seen ya a lot over the last decade, but this is a big bummer. All the best to the family and close friends around him. Think I’ll listen to the tape once more tonite. With the Lennon intro of Stand by Me, the fade out and then I hear you say: Jaaa, daar komt-ie. (Yes, there we go).

I wanna run , I want to hide. I wanna tear down the walls that hold me inside.

Magnificent guy and a great loss for the U2 community. Condolences, Ray

  395. An invaluable piece of U2 referance was made possible by PJ. Alot of the U2 experience was fleshed out by the descriptons which brought you closer to being there. He joins legends like Lennon,Marvin,Stevie Ray and countless others who left to soon but also left an inspiration that many will see and hear about for years to come.

  399. It’s because of Pimm’s selfless work that I was able to become a full fledged, die hard U2 fan in 1995 but still become familiar with all that I had missed. From the moment I flipped open Pimm’s book, I knew that U2 were going to be a big part of my life, and I thank him for dedicating his time to bringing the music he loved to others. I think his work was probably the most comprehensive ever done for any artist, and thank god we’ve all been blessed with his contributions.

  403. Pimm’s death came as a terrible shock to me as only as recently as March 20 we were discussing a further updated ediiton of U2: The Concert Files which I first commissioned from him for Omnibus Press back in 1993. I still remember visiting him in Amsterdam and being astounded by his amazing collection of U2 tapes. I knew straight away he was the right man to do this book and took pleasure in working with him on it. His attention to detail was truly extraordinary. He took enormous pride in making this book what it was: a real tribute to the band he loved. I am shocked and saddened by what has happened.

  415. Pimm, I was one of the thousands of people with whom you crossed your path. As with so many, we met during Bowie’s Glass Spider tour. On hearing you were also a big U2-fan, I remember having made the enormous insult to qualify U2 by that time as ‘a hype’. I know now how mistaken I was.
Ten years after we meet accidentally in cafe Eik & Linde. You were selling newspapers. I guess everybody has run into Pimm a second time.

As strange as it was to see your kind face suddenly framed in black, I can feel also comfort with your passing away. It shows me how wonderful people dedicating their lives to a dream will not fade away. I will not forget that warm smile of yours.

  417. Gees, PJ, I dunno what to say… I’m really sorry we lost touch. Those days were the best I ever had. Life is wierd. Just when you think it’s ok, someone goes and changes the channel. I’ll never forget lumping boxes of Collectormania flyers from concert to concert, I’ll never forget how you taped the rip in your jeans, I’ll never forget me throwing up in your local pub (sorry!), I’ll never forget “zuschlag” on the train. I’ll never forget getting lost in Paris, and then getting ripped off for an expensive coffee in a cafe. I’ve already forgotten the dumb arguement with Guido (how could I have been so self-centered). I’ll never forget Bimbo bread in Barcelona. I’ll never forget the after-tour party in 92, I got the tape to prove it!! Remember (my name is) Luca, Carlos, Angelika, Stefano, Karin and her carots, Jurgen, cvb, AJ… all the floors we slept on, all the fans, hanging out in dubious places way after dark, freezing our butts off? I’d be the one sneeking into soundchecks and concerts, but you’d always buy your tickets. How decent is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were decent, and professional, and FUN! You deserved so much more. I really enjoyed your friendship, your generosity, your meals, your sense of humour, your dedication, your drive, your cups of tea. You got me adicted to stroopwaffles! Thanks for printing my photos, even tho they were really crap. Thanks for being a really cool person, thanks for liking U2, thanks for putting up with me. Thanks for the conversations. Thanks for taking me to see De Dijk. Thanks for the long letters, the tapes, the magazine, the books, even tho these diversions cost me some exams grades (who cares!). Thanks for meeting me at Schipol. Thanks for showing me around Amsterdam. Thanks for being great fun. Remember everyone booing at the Fatima Mansions? They were actually pretty good (after you heard them 10 times). Remember Christina the georgous belly dancer? She gave you her card! Remember the girls in Gothenburg? Remember Vienna? Remember Dublin, New Years Eve!!!!!! I don’t remember everything now but it was the best time eva! And I certainly didn’t remember the way back home – I’m still here in the northern hemisphere!! You know, I almost went before you… I’ve read through a lot of these messages. I think you made a difference. You DID make a difference! (Least of all, I’ve got you screaming on some of my concert tapes!!!). Hope you got satellite tv where you are now. Hope you’re ok now…………………………….

Hey kids, where are you, nobody tells you what to do, baby………..

  421. Hey, Pimm…

I always wonder why those humble-hearted people, those with great goodness always leave before we can say Hello!!!

Let us know somehow the view of the concerts from the place you’re now 🙂

And I’ll keep on re-reading your Gig Documentary with the same passion as I did up to these last days.

    Thank you…….312 t4

  423. I only met Pimm once, at the shoot of “Labyrinth of Lust” directed by his father, Pim de la Parra. He was a very nice man. Garry

  427. I’m so very sorry to hear of the sad news. Next to Propaganda, I think Collectormania was the best magazine about U2. I even handed out pamphlets at Zoo TV concerts for Collectormania. I never had the opportunity to meet him, but did admire his dedication to the greatest rock band ever. Now he will be able to ‘Dream out loud’ with the angels. From one ‘Until the End of the World’ die hard U2 fan to another, RIP Pimm.

  429. PJ was truly a Renaissance man with great passions and skills who prematurely left us without finishing what he set out to do, he will be surely missed. I first met PJ at a Zooropean collector

  431. It’s a shock! In spite of not having meet him since Lovetown and especially 92s ZooTV-Shows, I remember him as a so friendly and nice guy! I had deepest respect, for what he was doing! Thanks for havin’ me in Amsterdam! My deep sympathy to his family and friends, my deepest sympathy to you, Pimm Jal.

  433. I think the hundreds of comments on this page say plenty about the legacy, and the devotion to U2 and David Bowie, of this man who puts all of us “die-hards” to shame. We’ll all miss him and cherish his work all the more

  441. Bye,Pimm, sorry we didn’t meet eachother again when we were adults. We really had so much to talk and laugh about. I will always remember you as the eleven year old boy, who had the ambition to write a book about David Bowie. You did and so much more. Your soul has had an amazing experience of life on this earth

  445. Wow, what a book! And what a great guy Pimm Jal must have been. I think it’s a true classic for every U2 fan. Got it as a b’day present from my sister a couple of years ago. He really deserves great respect for this masterpiece. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends and to everyone who was lucky enough to have met the guy.

  459. Just dragged “U2 Live – a concert documentary” out of the shelf, read it again yesterday. Brought back some fine, and some very sad, memories around the concerts in 1985 and 1992. I always loved Collectormania, spoke to Monika once on the phone.
That was about as close as I got near Pimm. Today I decided to check the web about his whereabouts, when I read the shocking news.
I’m not that close to the music of U2 any more, it does not touch me anymore the way it did a long time ago, but it deeply touches me to hear about his death, because he was a really great person.
