Political Storm

Bono’s quoted in Neil McCormick’s article on contemporary protest music in the Daily Telegraph:

[on Electrical Storm] “It’s about a couple in a room, feeling a storm brewing in the sky outside and equating that to the pressure they feel in their relationship. I think it captures a sense of unease I feel around the world, especially in America, an air of nervous anticipation. It’s not an overtly political song, but I don’t think we could have written it before what happened in New York.”

[on artists making political statements] “You have to get your message across in different ways. A hardened terrorist is not going to put down his weapon because Bono says war is bad. I’m terrified that, if U2 make another big statement about peace, war might break out just to knock me off my high horse!”

But, more importantly, at a charity bash in Cannes, Bono introduced Sting: “He’s good-looking, fit and one of the greatest songwriters to come out of Newcastle – but God is fair, and he has no penis!”

  5. i am one of those persons who enjoys hearing bono ramble on and on even when he can barely string three words together to make a sentence — he still is able to somehow come off as profound and/or often, humorous. given the transcription, i choose (for my own personal reasons) to believe that bono is — once again –describing god as a woman. he probably didn’t mean to say “and…” – he should have said ‘so.. or therefore he has no penis.’ he is cute as hell a little drunk. i love him.

  7. I recall seeing Stings penis a few years back online (I’ve long since forgotten the URL, sorry), and I could see how Bono would have missed seeing it.
