Q Magazine online quote from an interview with The Edge to appear in this month’s magazine (on sale October 8). He says “We’re on a roll. It’s getting more like the early U2 records. Really simple, stripped-down arrangements.”
The band is quoted to be “hungry for music with life-force” and have recorded tunes recalling Bowie and The Who with “primitive riffs and abrasive garage band rawness”. (thx Dan)

Well, the Edge seems bloody excited about all the new stuff. I hope when he says this he is not indicating a complete abandonment of technology in the music. They have really become some of the leaders if not the best in being innovative with sounding fresh without abandoning core rock n’ roll. I’m sure he means all positive things. (I don’t want to start the whole “old U2 vs. new U2” debate. Just making an observation. Besides, we all know that the new U2 (circa Achtung Baby forward) is better =)!!)

Is this it? ;-D (And, uh, when did The Who turn into a band with simple arrangements? C’mon, man, friggin’ rock operas?!?)

There is nothing more simple or beautiful as “40”, “October” or “Drowning Man”. Nothing more “Punky” than “Out of Control” or ” I Threw a Brick”. But I would agree that some of the more polished, powerful tunes are post Achtung…”One”, “Please” and of course…”Walk on”.

War meets Achtung, hmm…my second favorite U2 album meets one of my two #1 favorite U2 albums…I’m liking that VERY much!

Yes! This is very exciting, I’ve been hoping the next album would be big guitar one, a reaction to the more laid back ATYCLB. If ATYCLB was a challenge to the boy bands, the next one should be a challenge to garage bands like The Strokes, Vines, Hives, White Stripes, etc.

I have a feeling this could be their third peak!!! Its goods they have changed producers…to get yet another u2 sound on the way..after hearing electrical storm (although i do feel this song has particlarly pathetic lyrics), and the snip of HTBA, it is clear that bono’s voice is back to it best.

So… who’s producing the new tracks?

You know what I like about U2 so much? They can completely change their style (a la Rattle and Hum to Achtung Baby or Pop to ATYCLB) and still sound like U2. So in essence, I’m not worried about the direction they’ll take in their next album. They could probably play with rubber bands and trash can lids and still somehow sound like the U2 we all love.

i dont get it,they keep saying they wanna go back to basics and more of a pure guitar band sound, but the Electrical Storm video was the Orbit mix, hardly a crunching version of the song.

Whatever it is, it isn’t like we aren’t all going to go and pounce on it as soon as it is out!!! It could be 30 minutes of the Best Farts Bono has after eating mexican, and I’d probably buy it…

Id only buy it if Eno produces it, and the farts were treated with Edge’s delay. Could be a hit.

2 things:
1, Edge has not invent his own guitar sound since joshua tree, please find it out this time. 2, why ATYCLB couldn’t match JT and AB? it is too happy. there must be some dirty element in a u2 masterpiece. so listen to Darth Vadar : don’t underestimate the power of the dark side.

Apparently, Q Magazine are going to decicate a whole magazine to U2 this autumn. They’ve done it before with Bob Dylan, The Beatles and REM. It’ll basically be every single Q interview and features, along with all the reviews, a history, exclusive stuff and comments from other musicians. They’re usually really good. If you don’t live in Britain, you can probably order it online. I’ll let y’all know when it’s out.

egde has re-invented his guitar playing and use of sounds with every album U2 made.

I believe that the edge created the sounds of zooropa/utteotw//even better..ultraviolet/the fly … it his sound. There is nothing on ATYCLB that is exactly guitar inspiring. Not the best Edge effort by a long way. I love the guitar in new years day/pride/even better!

ATYCLB too happy? I must have missed something. It seemed like an album about death to me. Point in fact, a return to War/Actung sound would be like a celebration comparitavely. Punk rebellion. I hope they get back to their punk roots.

Regarding Q magazine. If you don’t live in Britain you can pick it up at most any Barnes & Noble or Borders bookstores.
