Who’s to say they can’t continue?

The Edge has weighed in on the debate as to whether The Who can continue in spite of losing two members: “I think if it works for them, if they really think it’s still happening, then I’m certainly not gonna second-guess them”

  1. I guess the bigger question is…what would happen if Larry and Adam left U2? It would not be the same…
No two musicians share the exact vibe, so it would be different for The Who or any other “tight” band, not better or worse, just different.

  3. i love the Who – but I don’t know, losing TWO members and continuing? Well, I don’t mind as long as they tour in my town 🙂

  5. I don’t know much about The Who. Have they ever had people replaced? I think U2 are unique in that it’s all four of them that have a special chemistry, and if one of them were gone, it would be lost. I think a lot of other bands can and have replaced some of their members and continued just fine.

  9. Adam: ‘Who’ drummer Keith Moon died in ’78. They replaced him a little after that with Kenny Jones (former ‘Faces’ drummer) and released 2 albums of new material. ‘Face Dances’ (1981) and ‘Its Hard'(1982). The feel of the band really changed dramatically. The sound was similar but the abscence of that awesome combo of Moon and Enthwistle laying down the foundation made the groups efforts noticable difference from what made ‘The Who’ popular in the first place. I am positive if Larry were to go missing that there would be a noticable change in the sound of the band, if they were to try and go on. Like Edge said, not better or worse, per se. Just different. Like with ‘The Who’, however, it just wouldn’t be the same.

  11. Edge should know. U2 lost Bono to Africa about four years ago. I do agree with his answer. It is up to The Who whether they should continue or not.

  13. People of the earth with ears should all gather round and politely tell The Who to put down their instrumnets. I hope I die before I get old? When was the last time they wrote an original number? U2 strive to make their best music now. The Who singing “My Generation” or “Won’t Get Fooled Again”. This is dispicable.
