  1. Somehow I can’t believe all this… It would have cropped up much earlier I guess. Still I truly hope it’s true!!!

  3. When I was purchasing the Electrical Storm singles from my favourite record store, the store owner (who is a big U2 fan) said the Slane Castle concert will screen on TV before Christmas and be released on DVD in the New Year. Whatever the date turns out to be, one thing’s for sure: it’s definitely coming out on DVD.

  5. I heard the rumours quite recently that there were no plans to release Slane on DVD. Could this be a cover-up so as to keep focus on the upcomming Best-of release?

  7. Slane 1? I was always under the impression Slane 2 was the one that was filmed in full. Mind you I’ll be mighty happy if it was Slane 1 myself…. :o)

  9. They’ve already released one Elevation show on DVD – they’ll not gain anything by releasing another since they’re generally the same show and setlist.

  11. So far U2 have released 0 video/DVD concerts filmed in Ireland, Britain or Europe. I think an Elevation show, especially one where they had been on tour for long enough to get the songs played very tightly, would be ten times better than a Best Of DVD with clips we have already seen many, many times.

  13. Good point. Actually, it’d be nice to have a U2 gig recorded in their hometown. They must be the ones with the best atmosphere. And maybe….just maybe….they’ll record a gig that they do in Britain. With me there. Oh yes.

  15. Waiting at the tip of heart for a good eight hours for U2 to take the stage, with no food, very little water, miserable weather conditions, and numerous crappy bands (yes, Ash sucks)… that’s what Slane (2) was for me. But when U2 did take the stage, the excruciating uncomfortableness was forgotten. It was the greatest U2 show (if not, of all time!) I’ve ever witnessed. Now, this is what I propose. Withdraw all copies of this pointless ‘Best Of’ series, release Slane on DVD, with 4 hours of extra footage from Elevation Tour 2001, and you’ve got yourself a winner. Seriously, do we really need a 2002 version of ‘Numb?’

  17. Are they ever going to release Zoo TV Down Under/Popmart Mexico City on DVD? Just wondering if anyone has heard anything lately.

  19. My guess (note: guess) would be that U2 want to release them on DVD, but don’t have the time right now to do them properly – with all the extras that are common on DVD, proper 5.1 surround mixing (you can just imagine Edge spending months on that alone), etc. But again, that’s just a guess.

  21. Good ole Dallas. He was in fine form when I saw Bruce and the E st. Band in Detroit this summer, and wearing white and black wingtip shoes. You think Edge has a lot of equipment on stage- the E St. Band has got enough musical instruments to outfit a high school band the size of a small army.

  23. I take offense to the sentiment that Ash sucks. lol And it sure would be nice if they did release ZooTV and POPMart Mexico. I would love to hear the improved audio.

  25. I’m from Ottawa,Canada. On the weekend I won tickets for a special screening of the Slane DVD, at a local movie theatre. So, I am assuming that it will be released very soon. I have no idea what Slane concert it will be. Either way, it should be prety cool.

  27. DudeLove721, I’m not sure if you meant that, but I didn’t understand the hoopla over Ash. Everyone, even the Irish security guys, was singing along to EVERY song. I know they’re big in Ireland, but they didn’t present well on the Slane Castle stage. Moby wasn’t even that convincing. Oh, and that very first band, whose name escapes me, really really really sucked.

  29. I have heard some Ash live tracks and I own one of their albums. Some of their songs are a bit on the weak side, but they remind me of a young U2 on some of their stronger tracks… not saying that they sound like them at all… just the energy though. You should actively seek out such songs as “Folk Song”, “I’m Gonna Fall”, and “Goldfinger”. Those are some mighty fine tunes… “So The Story Goes” and “Walking Barefoot” and even “Shining Light” aren’t too shabby either.

  31. Come on! This is utter rubbish! Firstly there were no camera’s at Slane 1 and secondly this is not scheduled for release as per the dreamchaser office in dublin or Principle Management…. Dream On!

  33. Well, if any Slane show is to be released, it will be the second. Numerous extra cameras were present, and Willie Williams was quoted saying they filmed the thing much like they filmed Boston.

  35. So this would be Elevation: The Boston Concert in Dublin, Ireland, right? Guess so, since just about every show was a carbon copy of the last. Best Of’s and DVD’s, Agh! How about a new album?

  37. Um… have you been smoking up? This was probably their most diverse tour since… maybe the Lovetown tour? POPMart was the tour that the most carbon copy shows…

  39. And another thing, how fast do you expect them to come out with a new album? It’s only been about two years since their last record. You should be happy that they are even putting out 2 new songs in between the last record and the next one.

  41. Dudelove, Popmart and Elevation had about the same amount of ‘changing up’ in the setlist. However, Popmart had video and complicated lighting to contend with that went along with every song. Elevation would have been a much easier show to change frequently, and they chose not to. Also, I think it is funny that you say Elevation was the most diverse tour since Lovetown. Lovetown… the tour which Larry defined as being a human jukebox churning out the same old U2 hits. As for a new album, you weren’t talking to me, but to say anyone should be happy because we got two songs in the meantime… sure, if the songs didn’t Suck the Casbah.

  43. Dream on? This is in relation to Paul Walshe’s comments, I’d like to point out that slane was listed on the dreamchaser website for release early next year in May this year. There have always been plans to release it on DVD.

  45. Just my comments on Slane 2. Yes the first band were a bit ordinary, I loved the second band [The Wall.?] , The soccer was cool [the place went nuts when Ireland scored]. Don’t know about everybody singing along to Ash, they just kinda came & went. I just could’nt get into Nellie Furtardo, the little girls around me were dancing and singing but I found her really irritating [I’m getting old now..], moby just had fun.. & U2 were fab.. [despite not playing bad]. The fireworks at the end were a nice touch.

I’d buy the DVD, just as long as it didn’t have the same ending as the concert.. “The exits on the West & East side…” repeated 5 million times WAY TO LOUD.

  47. slane one did have a few cameras about and if they recorded slane 2, they’d have recorded slane 1 too as a dress rehearsal and just release whichever one came out better or they might splice the shows a la boston – the setlist between slane and boston is quite diff – we might get mysterious ways and one included this time around or a sort of homecoming from slane 1 or all i want it you from slane 2. Now if only bono would learn how to write again.

  49. To AFellowGeezerFan and Plot…you can’t be serious. As Dudelove pointed out, Elevation had a HUGE variety of songs (Homecoming, 11 O’Clock TT, Stories, Out of Control, Sweetest Thing, Harlem, Stay, I Remember You, Wild Horses, What’s Going On, God’s Country, Hawkmoon, My Sweet Lord, Fooled Again, People Get Ready, Heaven’s Door, etc etc). In PopMart all we got was Edge singing Daydream Believer karaoke style.

  51. I don’t understand the complaint about the lack of diversity in the concerts. I mean, I suppose it might get tiring if you actually went to multiple shows, but most people only go the one in or near their hometown. Besides, it’s ridiculous to think that the people don’t expect U2 to play certain songs. Big fans might want to hear something different, but most of the people in the stadium are gonna want to hear the hits. And you have to deliver.
