The Edge jams with Wyclef in Dublin

Dave Fanning’s Sunday show tonight on RTE 2FM came live from Wyclef Jean’s concert at the Ambassador in Dublin. U2log.com contributor Pat Lynch reports a long chilled out bluesy guitar solo was on directly after the break, sounding like an intrumental version of “With or without you”. At that point Fanning interrupted with commentary, saying it was actually The Edge on stage. Later on in the show Wyclef mentioned being drunk on a Black Velvet (a Guinness and champagne concoction) sent to him by Bono.

update: a review of the concert on the official Witnness site (promotors of the concert). There’s a small picture of Edge with Wyclef on their homepage.

  1. I heard this, it was awesome. Big mad electric instrumental version of WOWY, it seemed to go on for ages. Wyclef seemed pretty cool, he kept going on about his buddies Bono [straight outta dublin] and The Hedge!!! It was very funny actually.

Incidentally, I missed the start of the show, but my sister told me that Wyclef also played a version of Sunday Bloody Sunday – instrumental also. Actually she said he kind of segued into a lot of different U2 songs during this earlier medley.

  3. oh yeah – Edge was definitely onstage for WOWY, but I’m not sure about SBS. towards the end of his set Wyclef told stories about how Bono sent him a crate of guinness and some champagne, telling him to mix the 2 and make a drink called a Black Velvet. He then drank one of these onstage (with the crowd chanting “CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!” and commented afterwards that he couldn’t feel his feet.

MP3s of the U2 stuff, anyone???

  5. Bonus points for the person who can come up with the other famous musician that called The Edge The Hedge… Extra for where they where when he told Bono “Give my reguards to the Hedge”…

  9. OI!!! Leave Wyclef alone!!! Gone Till November is a great tune… AND he played a wicked WOWY with Edge… AND he chugged a black velvet (respect!)… but BEST OF ALL he recorded a song with Kenny Rogers (who is WAY better than the man in black, Zooropafans ;-)……….. so there.

  11. Perhaps his performance with Edge will redeem him for me after making the worst Tom Jones record ever known..
