Into The Chart

The Best Of 1990-2000 holds two American chart positions this week: the single-disc version of the album shipped to stores this past week, and entered the Billboard chart at #34; meanwhile, inventory copies of the bonus-disc B-Sides edition stayed on the chart just above that, at #27. And if you’re a pedantic chart-position freak like moi, feel free to click that “More” link for an expanded breakdown…

We’re too cheap to pay Billboard to tell us exactly what that means in terms of copies sold, but we can say that the B-Sides set sold somewhere between 52,000 and 60,000 units this week (the volume sold of #s 28 and 26, according to Rolling Stone), and that the #31 entry (three places away from the single-disc) sold 45,000 units — so all told, somewhere in the neighborhood of 90,000 to 100,000 more Best Of units were sold — they just split the vote with the two editions. Ain’t nuthin’ to be ashamed of, though in a week this competitive, the combined sales still place them outside the Top 10, somewhere lower in the Top 20. So it goes.

  1. If someone’s interested in the exact sales, they’re about 59,700 for the limited edition and 37,900 for the regular edition. It sure was a busy week with 9 debuts above the limited edition and a whopping 12 above the regular edition. Let’s see what the coming weeks will hold.

P.S. Some local news: The Best Of 1990-2000 is #1 in the Netherlands for a second week (with sales combined).
