  1. oh Lordy. If I had been there, I’m pretty sure my heart would have exploded. also on that page is “Stand By Me” from 1987 or thereabouts where Bruce joined U2 on stage. They should get together more often…

  3. As wonderful as soundboard recordings are, there is something to be said about audience recordings. I just love how you can pick up on audience comments if you listen to the background noise. On this recording of Bono/Bruce doing “Because the Night” at the very beginning you can hear a woman’s voice say “WHO IS IT?” and a guy answers “U2’s Bono!” LOL. On one version of Nov 18, 1987 (JT tour when the band opened for themselves) you can hear people in the audience who don’t know who The Dalton Bros. really are and you can catch all these great comments like “GET THE HELL OFF THE STAGE!” and upon seeing Adam as Betty Dalton you can hear one guy say “Jesus is she ugly.” ROTFL. But I think my favorite is from Sep 15, 1992 when they pulled out an acoustic version of “So Cruel” at the b-stage and as soon as he sang the first line this desperate voice starts screaming “THANK YOU BONOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.” 😀

  7. just about every time I see Bono or Bruce, I think of that line from Alanis Morissette- “it’s like meeting the man of my dreams… and then meeting his beautiful wife.” Ali and Patti, you are two lucky ladies.

  9. Heh. The first time I read that I thought you said “just about every time I see Bono AND Bruce….” and then the Alanis reference. I was gonna ask you which one of the two was the beautiful wife. LOL Now as for me, my way-older brother loved Springsteen — and I’ve been totally enraptured by U2 since the first time I saw them. So everytime I see B&B together it feels to me like my brother and I together. My bro. was killed on the job 3 yrs ago — just after Bono inducted Bruce into the Rock Hall. So now I’m that much more sentimentally attached to seeing the two of them together. ITNOL, Patty

  11. I’m sorry to hear about your brother, Patty. While we’re on the sad story track, how’s this for one, which I only wish I was making up: about a month before ATYCLB was released, I had a dream where Bono, dressed a la Popmart, and I spoke about suicide. Actually, he did most of the talking – big surprise. 🙂 Neither of us was contemplating actually doing it, we were just talking about why people make that choice. Anyway, three days later, a friend of mine (also related to me through marriage) was dead by his own hand. I was stunned. It had been completely unexpected, and I felt like a fool. Since then, as you can imagine, SIAM has had some real resonance with me.
ahh. Sad stories. This time of year always makes you remember them.
