Bono in AIDS Weekly

Bono is featured on the cover of the January 6th issue of AIDS Weekly, a free publication distributed at HIV clinics and hospitals in North America. The accompanying article is a report on the Global Health Council’s conference on AIDS in which Bono and Bill Frist participated last month in Nashville.

  1. This is really a comment about the previous news article about Henry Rollins’ criticism of Bono’s “extracurricular activities”. If Mr. Rollins does not understand the connection between Third World Debt and AIDS then he needs to study the issue more (the way Bono has). AIDS creates a huge financial burden on African countries where 1) some populations are 90% HIV+, 2) where the health care systems are totally inadequate to handle the problem and 3) where the number of AIDS orphans (children living in the streets because both parents have died of AIDS) is enormous in some African cities. This is just a VERY BRIEF summary of the impact of AIDS on African economics and without debt relief there is absolutely no chance of these countries being able to deal with the problem. Mr. Rollins, do some reading before you comment again on a subject on which you obviously have very little knowledge.
