  1. I like this. Don’t think the band has played that fast in many years. 🙂 Bono sounds good although his vocals seem more reminiscent of Bowie rather than Joey. (g)

  3. Remember ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ from Irving Plaza 2000. This is also cool rock. U2 should make their next album in that way :-!

  5. I’m not to fond of this cover and i’ll leave it at that so I don’t get flamed or start any arguments.

  7. hmm.. doesnt really sounds as u2, but more like the ramones with bono on lead vocals. Suprising…
would indeed be cool if their next album is going to sound this way

  11. Bono’s vocals on the verses sound kinda ridiculously dramatic… the quiet breathy thing is a bit lame. I prefer when he lets that little sneer creep in — “beat on the brat-AH”. It’s the Ramones, not Sting, man. ;-D (That said, the band sound solid, though I did expect something a little less traditional…)

  13. Well, I don’t know about the Ramones cover, but that soundtrack version of “The Hands that Build” is much more like it. Not as kick ass as the version in the film itself, but still way better than the version on the Best Of.

  15. Yeah . . . When I saw “Gangs of New York,” and suddenly this big rock tune comes on at the end, I’m thinking “What is this song? That heavy guitar sounds vaguely The Edge-like . . . Oh yeah! It’s that song I hate off the new compilation! Hey! It sounds much better here!” Mind you, the version on the soundtrack isn’t the same one as on the film, but at least it’s an improvement.

  17. But you know, nothing will make me be able to swallow the middle-8th of that song. Gag. Even some extra overdubbed strings, accoustic guitar and stuff. “Is this one to keeeeep?” Augh!

  19. Hmmm. Maybe you’re right. But at least you can hear what is being said during that sample that’s repeated over and over again in the Best Of version. Listen towards the end of the soundtrack version, and you can pick it up.

  21. I can dig the ramones cover. Yeah, “I remember you” would have more emotional resonance, but the band sounds great, Bono sounds great, a good time is had by all.

  23. If the new album has as much energy and fun as this cover of Beat On The Brat does, I think I just might piss myself from overwhelming joy.

  25. I love 4 ticks with drumsticks before a song starts!!! (had to do it with the three ticks before one ’till now, but 4 is better)

  27. The band is GREAT! but bono totally ruined it for me. Like Chris said…what’s up with the breathing/moaning thing? This is a punk rock song, not some sexy version of “beat on the brat”.
The band should have let Larry sing.

  29. Why is everybody talking about this until now? Wasn’t it released on radio stations a couple of months ago?
    I love that song BTW.

  31. Hey, cheers LeMon for uploading the mp3 – great quality! The track itself is good fun, but I want the next album to be more MEAN!If they’d mix the sounds and production values of Achtung Baby with Pop, then I’d be one happy chappy 😉

  33. Lisa, the easier thing to do, is to just go to that webpage that was posted in the reader comments right here. It has the mp3 of Beat On The Brat and the soundtrack version of Hands.

  35. beat on the brat really sounds like the guys just plugging in and playing…very cool from a certain point of view. i guess they will definitely consider that feeling for the next record…the rawness, and that

  37. Sounds great!!! I have a feeling the next album will sound like this. Why were some complaining about bono’s breathing? It not like its going on throughout the entire song.
