  5. Sorry, fan since 80’s sometimes I forget. Or sometimes so many people send in the link it would look silly to thank ’em all. And then sometimes I can’t be bothered e-mailing everybody back with thanks because my head’s about to explode. Bless your 5 year old, though.

  7. Nice vid. Still, all it does is make me more p!$$ed that it’s taking forever for them to finish the new album. Sure you can’t rush perfection, but if you take fewer side projects like movie themes, tribute songs, and humanitarian trips….. Well, Bono & Crew need to get back to business. This video has only just managed to increase my appetite for new U2 material, especially since the last album was a 2000 release and it’s 2003 now. *sigh*

  9. Doesn’t look like there’s any new footage of the band at all. It’s just the music video in black and white intercut with scenes from the film.

  11. It’s all good, he was just psyched to share!
His favorite is Walk On…Likes ES, as a matter of fact I have him singing the whole song on video, with the dramatic Bono dance and the Stiff lip Adam look as well.

As for Hands…I have discovered it’s a grower. I think the power of a good soundtrack song, is to assist you in really understanding the meaning of the movie. I thought it was very powerful how the 3rd verse “It’s early fall…” had no footage of the movie at all. It’s a strong connection to Early fall2001, not 1864…Peace!~

  19. does anyone else think that bono is totally off-key when he sings “star” in this version? Why didn’t they use the version with the far-superior vocal track?

  21. It’s interesting how everyone is on the voice quality thing. ATYCLB was the most raw, stripped back album since War and we are hearing the real Bono. The raspiness of “Star” was not off key as much as it was unproduced. That was the first thing that really attracted me to ATYCLB was the “sound of four guys makin’ a record” and not some techno fuzz, air brushing it to awfulness. I think the most quizical of all and the new video hints at it…2/3 rds in the operetic section, is it Pavoroti, Bono, or perhaps…Bono’s Dad?

    Happy Weekend all!!~~

  25. Hrm… a 3rd version of the song… is this gonna be the single version? I think I like this one better than the soundtrack version, but still not as much as the “Best Of” version.

  27. lol Pavarotti? come on, he sings better than that.. it’s Bono you can hear it. I hate that part, it doesn’t suit Bono’s voice AT ALL.
I like the beginning of “hands..”-song but with the scream in the middle of it all just ruins it for me. And the fact Bono just HAD to make a reference to sept. 11 midst it all just seem out of place. That’s not what the song is about. Although you could have expected it from Bono, the way he is nowadays. And I’m sick of performance videos, dammit!

  29. Ahhh Debasher….negativity returns to posting…Pav was a joke…you missed the point, I was simply stating that perhaps Bono was inserting a tribute to his Dad. As for the Sept. 11 reference, there is the signifigant early Fall Gang war in the movie which the song is about. But also fact that they stripped away movie scenes during that part of the song I thought was special/interesting.
I had trouble with that part of the song when I first heard it, but somehow after seeing the movie it works. I, again, thought it’s been interesting how they edit out any part of Bono singing that part of the song.

  33. Come on, fan since ’80, when he sings “Star” at the of of the “I took your kiss” line, it has absolutely nothing to do with production that the note is audibly, clear as day, flat. Bono sang the wrong note. Sure, they might have been able to clean it up in production and decided not to, but he sang wrong.

As for the Sept 11 verse, it wouldn’t be so horrid apart from the fact that it seems so contrived, completely ignoring the structure of the song. The way he emphasises the wrong syllables as well as the lazy rhyming of “skyline” with “line.” It’s just not poetic like the rest of the song. It lacks the imagery and the soul.

  35. oh, and the pavarotti part wouldn’t be so odd if it weren’t for bono’s tortured vocals, and most of all, that he isn’t saying anything. It sounds like tarzan or something.

  37. Actually…I think that’s Bono, there, singing Pavarotti. Remember, his father was a very good opera singer, and Bono is actually a tenor…musically speaking, that is. That is where his vocal range is.

…And actually, I really like that part. It isn’t odd to me at all.

  39. “That was the first thing that really attracted me to ATYCLB was the “sound of four guys makin’ a record” and not some techno fuzz, air brushing it to awfulness”

I cannot believe I just read that. ATYCLB was their most sticky sweet overproduced album to date. Was that Lanois and Eno or Max Martin fiddling with the mixes? There is nothing raw sounding in that album. You like this albm more than Pop? Cool. But you have no leg to stand on in comparing their ‘rawness.’

  41. Come on, opera-singers have a different sort of voice than Bono’s. They’re trained to sing in a certain way. Bono’s got a good voice overall, but he cannot pull off such a singing-style, it’s a fact.

  43. Talk to the boys and let them tell you which had more production and which was more raw. NO DOUBT…POP was much more techno, overdubbed etc. Bob if you don’t like Bono’s singing…why are you here? More importantly, Plot, your input is always negative so I shouldn’t even recognize you!

  47. Debaser, what happened to AOPC?

And I kind of agree about the part where Bono tries to be an opera singer… doesn’t totally work.

  49. “Talk to the boys and let them tell you which had more production and which was more raw.” Coming from the boys that call themselves “punk rock” upon winning Grammy’s for ATYCLB, their answer really wouldn’t mean much to me. They also said Pop was their best album, the “payoff” for long time U2 fans when it was released. The next U2 album will be more emotional and raw than ATYCLB… according to the band. Just wait. “…POP was much more techno, overdubbed etc. ” The fact that you call it techno goes to show me what you don’t know about electronic music. “More importantly, Plot, your input is always negative so I shouldn’t even recognize you!” This is for you. U2 was a great band in the 80’s. U2’s work in the 90’s was superb. They are one of the greatest bands ever. There. I hope that counters my negativity about ATYCLB and Bono’s fucking hair.

  51. I think the discussion over the production side of U2 albums is off topic so maybe I shouldn’t jump in, bit I have a quick thought on it. Fan Since 80, you’re right that Pop used more studio techiques that ATYCLB. But what plot says about Pop being more raw is true. Pop had a rougher, murkier sound that sounds more like it’s being played live. ATYCLB sounds very polished. I love ATYCLB and Pop is only ok to me because of the actual songs. But the one thing about ATYCLB I never liked was that the mixes are too clean.
