Praising Bill

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that during his first week as majority leader of the U.S. Senate, Bill Frist received a laudatory email from Bono. The message, which was addressed to “Senate Majority Leader Bill,” showed Bono’s delight about having a person who understands the AIDS crisis in Africa leading the Senate.

“Wow! A guy, a doctor, who appreciates the sheer scale of the emergency of HIV, who understands the medical, the moral, the economic and the security aspects of it in charge!” Bono wrote.

  1. I am also delighted to have Bill Frist as Senate Majority Leader. Well, okay I’m not really *delighted* to have any Republican as Senate Majority Leader, LOL. But this is the cream of the crop for those who are currently holding the power cards. And Sen. Frist has shown great concern toward the African AIDS crisis in the past. However, he has also backed off of the initiative at times, compared to how staunch he used to be, in deference to his pal(s) in the White House. HOPEFULLY now, however, with the increased power that Frist holds, and the White House’s need for Frist’s cooperation on some other things, Frist will be morally courageous enough to trade some of his Senatorial support in exchange for increased White House support for the AIDS crisis. 3. A nice change from the usual Senator/Attorney who constantly complains that “rich people are getting too many tax cuts.” I’m glad Bono was objective enough to see this.
