This is an oldie, from September 2002, but we’ve only just received a copy. The three best friends, Gavin, Guggi and Bono are seen here on the cover of The Sunday Times culture supplement, to promote Guggi’s art show in the Solomon Gallery in Dublin.

    Thank God the boy can sing…not one his more flattering photo-ops. Points for supporting his mates -but it would have been easier to just buy a photo from Guggi and a few CDs from Gavin… OK OK – I’m jaded after reading about the Cashman chick trying to sell off pieces of U2’s generosity… parasites all…

    This is as much about the friendship between these three guys as it is about Bono “supporting” Guggi and Gav. The article inside is about art, and how the three of them grew up as artists, from a young age. Gav and Guggi do a lot for Bono. People shouldn’t underestimate that. They are not parasites.

But Bono’s as much a shrewd businessman as he is brilliant artist – and I suspect he wasn’t just talking about artistic content when he wrote….”Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief…”
