Got a grand to spare? Adventures in Rock, a travel agency, sent out an e-mail this week that says: “If you’ve ever dreamed of having dinner with Bono, this is your chance.”
Bono will be honored as the 2003 MusiCares

I used to work for Musicares. Dinner is you and over 750 other people – LOL. The $1k tables are the “cheap seats” in the back. The good tables up front are $2,500/pp. If you plan to go why not buy your ticket directly from Musicares and save the $60? Musicares.com

Yeah, I got that e-mail. I do live in NYC too, and have a little extra in the bank, so it made me think a split second. I don’t have enough so I can just blow a thousand on one night though! Ah well, practicality.(g)

I wouldn’t pay Bono a thousand bucks for dinner(he probably can’t cook worth a damn) But I would pay the man a million dollars to get rid of his hideous purple shades. My man, you had it right with the Fly glasses. Where did it all go wrong?

“Musicares’ Financial Assistance Program”? How about “fan-who-just-wants-to-meet-bono financial assistance program”?. (sorry, I know I make bad jokes.)

LOL re: fan assistance… We could have used that charity to subsidize the cost of the Elevation tour tix. All kidding aside, Musicares is a really good organization. A great deal of the money they dole out is to the old blues musicians who built the musical foundation in this country — but never saw any fame or fortune. Most worked in smoky clubs all their lives, with no health insurance or pension — and now often have throat/lung cancer (from the years in smoky clubs), can’t afford their rent let alone med bills. Most of the folks going to the Musicares dinner are corporate-bought tix. Not all, but most. Which is fine — that’s the record companies contributing to these folks’ well-being, which is the least they could do after decades of song-stealing with no royalties, etc.
