Dutch Labour’s Beautiful Day

Wouter Bos, Dutch Labour-leader, took to the stage to the sounds of U2’s Beautiful Day at his party’s post-election celebration in club ‘Escape’ in Amsterdam tonight. Labour became the second largest party in the country, with 42 seats, just behind the Christian Democrats who took 44 seats.

  1. Well said, Bernard, but it’s always others’ tunes that come across kinda stupid and out of place 😉 The Liberals had Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the best’. The grand prize for originality. A political critic on TV remembered the Labour party that ‘Yes, it’s a beautiful day, but now it’s time to work on all that you can’t leave behind’. Touch

  3. I agree completely! I’m Dutch and even I am surprised that the fact that the Labour party used Beautiful Day as an entrance theme was the headline of U2log.com today! I saw the thing on TV yesterday so I can relate to it, but besides the 16 milion Dutch in the world, no one even knows who Wouter Bos is, so why put it on U2log.com…

  5. And it was PM Wim Kok who took the stage in 1998 to the sounds of PopMuzik, walking to the crowd in ‘bono – Mofo fashion’ with several bodyguards around him.

  7. Indeed! Totally forgot about that! That is something worth mentioning on U2log.com indeed, but a party using a U2 tune… not really…

  9. Why put it on U2log.com? Because this is my site, and I’ll do what I want with it, thanks. More to the point, I work in a newsroom and my election shift ran from 8.30 am till 1 am. A little U2 goes a long way on a day like that. And tends to bleeds into other areas. Other that that… why? Because.

  11. Hey, no need to be ‘this’ offended? I don’t have a real problem with it since I know about Dutch politics but I can imagine 98% of all visitors don’t… Take it easy…

  13. wouter bos just flickered over austrian televisons, with beautiful day played in the background of what seemed to be a post election party (why not call it an after show party, too…!)

  15. 🙂 I saw it yesterday and I must admit that it was the perfect song for such an occasion. And why shouldn’t it be on U2log.com? It’s always fun to read who uses U2 music for what occasion. Right now they’re playing “Beautiful Day” on the radio for Ruud de Wild (a dutch radio host) who had a baby girl last night. Ruud loves U2 so it is great to hear that song!
